BROTHERS OF CHARITY SERVICES IRELAND – WEST REGION POST OF TEMPORARY FULL-TIME ASSISTANT PSYCHOLOGIST CHILDRENS DISABILITY NETWORK TEAM 6 (GALWAY CENTRAL & SOUTH) JOB REF: 83715 The Role: The Assistant Psychologist position is designed to give experience to a recent graduate with an honours psychology degree (2.1), and generally a post-graduate qualification who is interested in gaining experience prior to applying for a place on a professional training programme. The person appointed will work at all times under the direct supervision of an experienced psychologist. The supervising psychologist will ensure that the assistant psychologist has a realistic balance of work, reflecting the person’s qualifications and experience and his or her need to gain relevant new experience. The assistant psychologist will gradually be introduced to work requirements, beginning with relevant reading materials and discussions with the supervisor, then moving to working alongside the supervisor at an agreed level of work. The intensity of supervision will gradually decrease as the assistant psychologist gains confidence and skills. The assistant psychologist will receive formal supervision in a confidential setting. Overall, the length and amount of supervision will reflect the experience of the assistant psychologist and the balance and amount of work to be done. The supervisor will be responsible for informing and liaising with staff with whom the assistant psychologist is to work. The supervisor will periodically observe the assistant psychologist’s work in order to evaluate the performance. Every effort will be made to make the kind of experience available to the assistant that will complement the needs of the service and future training goals of the assistant psychologist. Reporting to: Senior Psychologist. Qualifications/Experience: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology (2:1 or higher) and Masters degree in a related field. Experience in working in Disability Services (minimum 6 months) is essential. A full clean driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. Skills: Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to evidence based interventions and the scientist-practitioner model. Candidates must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills so as to effectively share expertise in a timely manner. It is critical that the selected candidate work effectively within a dynamic interdisciplinary team environment using a person and family centred philosophy in line with Family Centred Practice. Working Hours: 78 hours a fortnight based on a 5 day week. Contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8am – 8pm over seven days to meet the requirements of the services. The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual. The Health Service is undergoing ongoing transformation and therefore it is critical that a flexible attitude to changing environments and work requirements is held by the successful candidate. Salary: Department of Health Psychology Assistant salary scale ( 01st March 2025 ) - The single point salary scale for the post is - €33,237 per annum. Annual Leave: 23 days per annum.
