Research Assistant, School Of Midwifery & Nursing, NUI
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for an exciting opportunity as a Research assistant to join a review team based in the School of Nursing & Midwifery in NUI Galway, conducting a Cochrane Priority qualitative evidence synthesis review. This full-time (1.0 FTE) fixed term position is available from the 9th of August 2021 until the 8th of July 2022. Job Description: The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic creates an unprecedented burden worldwide. Research into vaccine-induced immunity is ongoing with a focus on phase 2 & 3 vaccine trials and their potential impact for large-scale immunity of the entire European population. VACCELERATE is a pan -European project that aims to connect all European stakeholders involved in vaccine development to provide a pan-European platform for clinical trial design and conduct. Part of this project involves a qualitative evidence synthesis (QES) exploring the barriers and facilitators that guide decision-making among potential trial participants around recruitment to vaccine trials in a pandemic or epidemic. The specific role of this Research Assistant position is to support the review team in the design, conduct and report of a prioritised Cochrane qualitative evidence synthesis to identify the factors that impact on recruitment to vaccine trials during a pandemic or epidemic. He/she will be based within the School of Nursing and Midwifery at NUI Galway. The successful applicant will need excellent project management skills and a knowledge of evidence synthesis methodology. He/she will be highly motivated, passionate about high quality synthesis research, with strong attention to detail and quality. Duties/Key aspects of the role include: The successful candidate will be required to take an active role in all aspects of the review project. In addition to the practical research aspects of the role, such as screening, critical appraisal, data extraction, synthesis etc., the successful candidate will also have a substantial role in the review conduct, and reporting. The successful candidate will work with the core reviewers and the wider team to ensure the project's objectives and deliverables are met. The successful applicant will need excellent project management skills and a knowledge of evidence synthesis methodology. He/she will be highly motivated, passionate about high quality synthesis research, self-motivated with strong attention to detail and quality. Central to the role will be responsibility for the project's operational management, ensuring compliance with timelines, milestones, and process. The successful candidate will act as the main line of communication between the review team responsible for progress reporting (resources, budget and timelines), providing input on study-related documents (e.g. reports etc.), and the set-up and maintenance of study files. The successful applicant will have excellent research and project management skills and will need to engage and communicate successfully with a team of reviewers.
