The successful candidate will join the School administration team and will report to and work closely with the Administrative Officer and the Head of the School of Law & Criminology. In addition, the successful candidate must be willing and able to work well with others. The position involves a significant amount of interaction with students and with academic and administrative colleagues across the School and University, and with key stakeholders outside of Maynooth. Principal DutiesAdministrative and Other Duties The Executive Assistant will provide a comprehensive first point of contact service for the School of Law & Criminology. This will involve significant receptionist and clerical duties which include: Faculty and Research Institutes The Faculty of Social Sciences comprises the Departments of Adult and Community Education; Anthropology; Applied Social Studies; Design Innovation; Economics; Education; Geography; Sociology; the Froebel Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education; the School of Business; and the School of Law and Criminology. The role of the Faculty is to co-ordinate the academic activities of individual departments, to oversee the strategic development of departments and to support interdepartmental programmes. The University has also developed several interdisciplinary institutes to support excellent research and to build research capacity across disciplines, including the Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute (MUSSI) and the Assisted Living and Learning (ALL) Institute. The School The School of Law and Criminology has 66 permanent staff. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, based on its research strengths in Law and Criminology, in a vibrant learning environment. The School is one of the newest academic units within the University and is amongst the largest common law academic units in the European Union. It offers a number of popular undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, educating over 2,500 students. The School places a very strong emphasis on research and is home to two European Research Council (ERC) awardees. Five research centres anchor the School’s approach to research: the Centre for Criminology, the Centre for European Law, the Centre for International Justice, the Centre for Legal History, and the Centre for Technology Law and Policy. Staff members regularly publish in leading international academic journals and with leading international publishing houses. The School has particular research strengths in the areas of international justice and human rights, law and technology, environmental law, European Union Law and policy, intellectual property law, health law, global business perspectives, criminology and criminal justice, and comparative legal theory. Army Cadet

The Army Ordnance Corps was first established as a separate entity in May 1922. The Ordnance Corps has an operational and a logistical role within the Defence Force. The logistical role is to provide technical support in the procurement, storage, distribution, inspection, maintenance, repair and disposal of all items of ordnance. The complete list of ordnance related equipment in use within the Irish Defence Forces is extensive, but includes ammunition, CBRN detection equipment & protection, explosives, tentage, night vision equipment & thermal imaging assets, clothing, armour protection, robotics, heavy and light weapons, turrets & mounting systems, naval armaments, fire control instrumentation, field catering equipment and tactical engagement systems & simulators. The Ordnance Corps also provide the only Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) service within the State in Aid to the Civil Power and supervises the development of Counter Improvised Explosive Device capability within the Defence Forces. The Ordnance Cadet Ordnance Cadets undergo the same course of training as Army Cadets. On successful completion of Cadetship, the Cadet will be eligible, for appointment as a Commissioned Officer in the rank of 2nd Lieutenant or Lieutenant. On appointment to the Ordnance Corps, the Commissioned Officer will receive Rate 2 pay. On appointment to the Ordnance Corps, an Ordnance Officer will be expected to successfully complete a Young Officers Course of approximately 22 months’ duration in the Ordnance School, Curragh Camp. During the Ordnance Young Officers Course, Ordnance Officers will complete a Master’s Degree (Level 9 of the National Framework of Qualifications) in Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives Engineering. Any Ordnance Officer that fails to complete the Young Officer Course will be posted to an Army Line Officer Appointment, outside of the Ordnance Corps and will revert to Rate 1 pay. Eligibility Requirements to join the Cadetship: · Applicants must be 18 years of age and under 39 years of age on closing date of application: you will be required to provide proof of your age if you progress to the next stage of the competition. · You must be at least 5ft 2in (157.48cm) in height to be eligible. You will be measured during the selection process. · No tattoos are to be visible above the collar while serving at the Defence Forces. This will be checked during the selection process and you may not proceed if you have visible tattoos above your collar. · Applicants must meet the working permit eligibility criteria to serve as part of the Defence Forces. i.e. You must have a minimum of 5 years eligibility to stay in Ireland. What is Corps of Engineers? The Corps of Engineers is responsible for ensuring that the Defence Force can live, manoeuvre and operate no matter where they may be deployed. As a combat support corps, Engineering troops are qualified soldiers, combat engineers and technicians. In addition to all-arms capabilities, they provide the essential specialist skills to build bridges, construct routes, clear obstacles, employ explosive demolitions, conduct specialist search and clearance and build fortifications and operational bases both at home and overseas, while providing essential life support capabilities such as power generation, potable water production and firefighting. The Corps of Engineers is also responsible for the maintenance of the Defence Force infrastructure such as barracks, training areas, airfields and naval installations. This includes overseeing maintenance staff, design tasks, contract and tender preparation, project management and acting as the Defence Organisation’s representative during ongoing projects. The Engineer Cadet Engineer Cadets undergo the same course of training as Army Cadets. On successful completion of the Cadetship, the Cadet will be eligible for appointment as a Commissioned Officer in the rank of 2nd Lieutenant or Lieutenant. On appointment to the Corps of Engineers, an Engineer Officer will be expected to successfully complete a Military Engineer Young Officers Course of approximately 12-15 months duration.
