The Staff Nurse Intensive Care Unit will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to the highest professional and ethical standards within the model of nursing care practiced in the relevant care setting. The Staff Nurse Intensive Care Unit will provide holistic, person centred care, promoting optimum independence and enhancing the quality of life for service users. The unit caters for both Surgical and Medical patients, including postoperative patients, cardiac patients, neurology patients and patients requiring urgent continuous dialysis therapy. ICU also manages obstetric emergencies and paediatrics when required; we also care for and manage our critical patients who require transfer to a speciality hospital for further intervention ensuring their safe transfer to the correct facility in a timely manner. The Intensive Care Unit is run by a highly specialised and experienced multidisciplinary team. The ICU promotes education and continuous learning for staff within the unit and at other educational centres, currently providing placement facility for staff enrolling on the Critical Care Foundation Course in affiliation with UCD and UCC.
