Profile of Craft Plumbing Construction/Engineering Plumbing work involves the installation and maintenance of plumbing, heating and mechanical services on domestic, commercial and industrial projects, including houses, schools, hospitals, office blocks, apartment blocks, factories as well as pharmaceutical, chemical, food/drink processing facilities. These installations comprise of a wide range of services including pipefitting, welding, soldering on central heating systems, air handling systems, solar heating, hot and cold water supplies, sanitary appliances and sanitation systems, gas pipelines and appliances, compressed air, fire control, steam, chilled water systems and process pipework. The HSE Dublin and Midlands serves a population of circa 1,077,639 providing health and social care services to communities living within Dublin West, Dublin South-West, Dublin South City, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Kildare, West Wicklow and Westmeath. Currently, approximately 30k staff work within the HSE Dublin and Midlands Region providing key health and social care services with a budget of €3 billion. The region has 4 Integrated Health Areas, serving a population of around 300,000 and take account of local geographies, population size, needs and services. The IHA areas are HSE Dublin South City and West, HSE Dublin South West, HSE Kildare and West Wicklow and HSE Midlands and the Integrated Healthcare Managers are in post since October 2024. IHAs bring together both acute and community services as well as other non-HSE providers and are crucial to supporting and enabling integrated care. Within the 4 Integrated Health Areas there are 9 acute hospital (model 4s and 3s, mix of statutory and voluntary providers) delivering a full range of acute hospital, women and children’s services, in addition to specialised radiation and oncology care. There are also 6 integrated care hubs/csts and 20 Community Health Networks who together will serve the population health needs of our area. The reform programme for HSE Dublin and Midlands provides an opportunity to shape the future of health and social care in a rapidly changing environment and to continue to implement safer better health care through integrated services. Health Regions will be the primary service coordination and delivery units for the vast majority of health and social care services provided across Ireland. The HSE Dublin and Midlands health region is divided into 4 healthcare areas: Naas General Hospital Naas General Hospital is an acute general hospital serving a catchment population of over a quarter of a million people in Kildare and West Wicklow. The majority of the hospital activity results from unscheduled inpatient admissions through the Emergency Department (ED) which operates 24/7. Principal Duties and Responsibilities The NCHD’s standard duties and responsibilities include, as directed by the Consultant / Clinical Director / Employer to, inter alia: · Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the provision of medical care to patients; · Diagnose and treat patients; · Ensure that duties and functions are undertaken in a manner that prioritises the safety and well being of patients; · Assess patients on admission and/or discharge as required and write detailed reports in the case notes; · Order and interpret diagnostic tests; · Initiate and monitor treatment; · Communicate effectively with patients and clients; · Attend clinics and participate in relevant meetings, case conferences and ward rounds; followed by documentation of findings on each patients chart; follow through with actions arising from the round; · Represent the department / profession / team at meetings and conferences as appropriate · Further progress knowledge of diagnosis and management; · Participate in multi-disciplinary clinical audit and proactive risk management and facilitate production of all data / information for same; · Co-operate with investigations, enquiries or audit relating to the provision of health services; · Maintain professional standards in relation to confidentiality and ethics; abide by the Irish Medical Council ‘Guide to Ethical Conduct and Behaviour’ (www.medicalcouncil.ie); · Seek advice and assistance from the Consultant / Clinical Director / Employer with any assigned cases or issues that prove to be beyond the scope of his / her professional competence in line with principles of best practice and clinical governance; · Engage in technological developments as they apply to the patient and service administration · Cover for occasional unplanned absence of colleagues; · Assignment to support services as required. · Perform other duties as required by the supervising Consultant / Clinical Director / Employer. Education and Training: · Attend at NCHD Induction; · Participate in mandatory and recommended educational and professional development programmes in accordance with organisational / professional requirements; · Maintain and develop professional expertise and knowledge by actively engaging in continuing professional education and development; · Make satisfactory progress in his / her training and development as per the requirements of the training body; · Engage in planning and performance reviews as required with the supervising Consultant / Clinical Director / Head of Academic Department. Health & Safety: · Comply with the policies, procedures and safe professional practice of the Irish Healthcare System by adhering to relevant legislation, regulations and standards; · Document appropriately and report any near misses, hazards and accidents and bring them to the attention of relevant / designated individual(s) in line with best practice; · Work in a safe manner with due care and attention to the safety of self and others · Be aware of risk management issues, identify risks and take appropriate action; · Promote a culture that values diversity and respect. Administrative: · Ensure good working practice and adherence to standards of best practice; · Promote quality by reviewing and evaluating the service, identifying changing needs and opportunities to improve services; · Assist the Consultant / Clinical Director / Employer in service development, including policy development and implementation; · Ensure the maintenance of accurate records in line with best clinical governance, the organisation’s requirements and the Freedom of Information Act, and provide reports and other information / statistics as required; · Engage in service audit and demonstrate the achievement of the service objectives; · Represent the department / profession / team at meetings and conferences as appropriate; · Keep up to date with change and developments within the Irish Health Service. Profile of Craft Core Skills Carpentry & Joinery Construction The Trade of Carpentry & Joinery is very wide and varied, it encompasses most of the skills required by the Wood Trades. These skills required of the Carpenter & Joiner are not confined to those required to work in wood but include skills in the use of metals, plastics and fabrics. The Carpenter & Joiner is also required to work in a cross section of domains within the overall trade. The following are some examples: Joinery Shop: This section of the occupation requires the Carpenter & Joiner to engage in setting out, production and assembling items of joinery which include stairs, doors, windows and built-in furniture. Site Work: Site work is the construction of buildings or houses which require 1st fixing, formwork roofs and 2nd fixing. This section is split into two categories, constructing/civil engineering contracts.
