JOB PURPOSE This is a cross-College role which carries with it responsibility for providing support for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities or who need to access additional support in their learning. The development of a programme of support for learners throughout the College in line with College Policies is an important aspect of the role, as is the allocation of additional support funding and the implementation of Special Educational Needs and Disability Order (SENDO) legislation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES The successful candidate will be responsible for any or all of the following duties: Assessment • Co-ordinate and oversee learning support referrals from students with learning needs and specific learning difficulties and/or disabilities. • Carry out initial needs assessment in consultation with external transition staff and agencies, where appropriate. • Complete Individual Support Plans to include recommendations on the nature of support to be provided by learning support and curriculum staff. Co-ordinate the sharing of individual support plans with appropriate staff. • Complete applications for examination support for students as per JCQ guidance and liaise with Examination staff when required. • Review Individual Support Plans on a regular basis and update supplementary learning agreements as required to comply with DfE requirements. • Co-ordinate and oversee student reviews within the academic year to ensure they are completed within the required deadlines. Co-ordination/Liaison • Co-ordinate learning support for students who require support from Learning Support Assistants, Note takers and/or Mentors. • Co-ordinate Learning Support for students who require other types of support including assistive technology, pre-enrolment orientation and laptop loan. • Organise Learning support staff rotas to ensure support is provided to students who require human support including Learning Support Assistants, Note takers and Mentors. • Complete applications for examination support for students in line with JCQ guidance and co-ordinate the gathering of paperwork and evidence from internal and external sources. • Co-ordinate and make referrals for SRC diagnostic testing / Specialist Literacy Assessment, if required. • Organise specialist support services from external providers, if required. • Organise referrals for counselling support for students, if required. • Promote student support on all College sites and signpost to other departments or external agencies when appropriate. • Ensure that all SLDD codes are keyed onto the EBS System to meet DfE requirements. • Attend team meetings and assist in the completion of actions stemming from these. • Schedule staff meetings for staff within area of responsibility and oversee the completion of actions stemming from these. • Act as the College Safeguarding Officer by adhering to the College’s Safeguarding Policy and keeping up to date with any training provided. Resource Management • Supervisory management of Learning Support Assistants and Administration including conduct and discipline, performance management, attendance management, staff appraisal and employee development. • Plan and organise work schedules for Learning Support Assistants and Mentors / Note takers. • Approve pay claims for learning support staff on a monthly basis and forward to Learning Support Manager within the required timeframe. • Organise transport for students who are entitled to EA funded taxis. • Establish a resource base of assistive technology used for the support of students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. • Make recommendations on the allocation of the additional support fund and other relevant funding. • Co-ordinate the organisation of loans for student laptops and assistive technologies and the return of equipment at year end. Quality • Keep financial records of all services provided through the additional support fund and other sources of funding. • Maintain appropriate records in relation to the administration of DfE budget as directed by Head of Learning Support. • Maintain ongoing audit and appropriate records in relation to the administration of access arrangements as per JCQ guidance as directed by Learning Support Manager. • Maintain an asset register within required guidelines. • Maintain statistical data for students in receipt of learning support and provide to management upon request. • Complete quality reviews in line with College policies and procedures upon request. • Maintain accurate financial records and process payclaims for staff. • Prepare reports for management and external agencies as required. • Ensure that all SLDD codes are keyed onto the EBS System to meet DfE requirements. • Ensure all students in receipt of learning support are recorded on EBS Fund Manager. Development and Planning In conjunction with the Head of Learning Support and Assistant Director Student Services and Marketing: • Identify staff development needs, make appropriate recommendations and contribute to training where appropriate. • Support, monitor and review the implementation of relevant policies e.g. the Learning Support Policy & Procedures and Examination Support Policy and procedure. Marketing and Promotion • Promote the independent counselling service for students. • Promote the Learning Support Service through appropriate advertisements, information leaflets and liaise with the College marketing team to inform on services offered within student services. • Attend external events to promote the service to stakeholders. General • Participate in the enrolment cover rota as appropriate. • Be required to undertake work outside normal working hours on occasions. • Provide reports, written and oral, as required. • Ensure that all documentation and authorisation procedures are adhered to. Other Essential Criteria The role may entail travel between sites and you are required to demonstrate how you are able to meet this requirement, e.g. whether you hold a full (i.e. not provisional) current driving licence which enables you to drive in Northern Ireland, and a car for official business, or have access to a form of transport which will enable you to meet the requirements of the post.
