In the context of patient care and under the direction of the Nurse/, The Health Care Assistant will: · Where necessary assist the patient in choosing from the menu and completing the menu card · Prepare the eating environment by removing any clutter prior to meals and making it as aesthetically pleasant as possible. (for example removing commodes, urinals and sputum containers) · Assist patients at mealtimes and ensure patients individual needs are met e.g. toilet assistance before and after meals if required and to wash their hands as appropriate · Assist with feeding or help to patients/residents to eat as directed by the Nurse/. · Assist patients with cutting or arranging their food so it can be easily eaten. · Observe the amount of food and liquids consumed by patients who need special monitoring in this area and document appropriately. · Liaise with the patient and the Nurse/ to source alternative diet if offered meals are not eaten. · Make patients comfortable after their meals (for example repositioning them or offering opportunities to clean their teeth or dentures) · Encourage patients to drink plenty of fluids and making this possible by offering refreshing drink frequently. · Ensure all information is given to the Nurse/ in a timely manner. · In the absence of catering staff, assist with preparation and serving of meals, nutritional drinks and light snacks in limited circumstances i.e. out of hours or in emergency situations[2] Elimination: The Health Care Assistant will assist with patient/resident elimination needs as appropriate. Personal Cleansing and Dressing: The Health Care Assistant contributes to patient comfort and maintenance of personal dignity by assisting them, when necessary with personal and intimate care and dressing activities. This may include; · Establishing a quiet, comfortable and dignified environment for the dying person and family members to share · Listening with respect and with empathy to relatives who may wish to chat · Providing comforting and refreshing drinks or snacks to relatives who may be spending long periods both day and night with their dying family member. · Providing comfort measures for the person as directed by the nursing staff. These may include frequent small sips of fluid, sponging off a warm forehead or adjusting pillows or bedclothes and assisting the team in the repositioning the patient. · Assisting with the preparation of the body for its removal to the mortuary · Organisation of the deceased person’s belongings for their return to the family. Responsible for the management of all Committee pre-meetings with the Committee Chair and officers and attendance at same to provide advice on Standing Orders and additional information as required. Responsible for providing advice and guidance on the operation of the Council’s Planning Protocol to MPs/MLAs/Elected Members/Applicants/Agents/3rd Parties and Council officers. Responsible for managing formal requests for speaking rights at meetings of the Planning and Regulatory Services Committee and for managing the production of a Schedule of Planning applications and its publication on the Council’s website. Ensure the appropriate storage and retention of Confidential Legally Privileged Legal Advice Notes arising from the Planning and Regulatory Services Committee and Full Council Meeting and for controlling access of same to only those Elected Members/Officers eligible to view such highly sensitive documentation. Provision of advice and guidance to officers on the correct use of the Council’s Seal and be responsible for its use and safe keeping. Members 13. Responsible for organising high profile overseas visits for Members including the annual Somme Tour which involves planning detailed itineraries and complex travel arrangements and liaison with a wide range of stakeholders. 14. Deal with queries from Members requiring problem solving in a highly politically sensitive arena. 15. Provision of research and information for Elected Members and officers to ensure requests for information is responded to in a timely manner. 16. Audit/Finance 27. Responsible for verification and processing of Members’ expense claims for approval using Transfare system. 28. Responsible for generating and processing Purchase Orders and invoices for goods and services as required using Integra system. 29. Responsible for processing payments for approval using the Council’s Corporate Credit Card and completion of the appropriate documentation to be vouched against corresponding debits on credit card statements. General Administration 30. Provide a comprehensive research and collation service as requested, in relation to Freedom of Information requests received, to enable a response within the statutory deadlines. 31. Liaise with representatives of Government Departments, Statutory Agencies and other External Bodies, Directors, Senior Officers and members of the public on a daily basis. 32. Deputise in the absence of the Democratic Services Manager as required. 33. Assist in the identification of efficiency savings within the Member Services Unit. 34. Undertake other relevant duties and special projects as requested by Strategic Directors and the Democratic Services Manager e.g. Local Government Elections, International Women’s Day, Local Democracy Week. 35. Safekeeping of the Local Government Electoral Register and confidential distribution of same in accordance with Local Government legislation. 36. Qualifications and training • Five GCSE’s (Grades A – C) or equivalent/comparable including Mathematics and English Language.
