Some young people may arrive at our projects with a complex history which can include self-harm, trauma, isolation, poverty, difficulty in forming relationships / trust, and exhibit behaviours and risks associated with their experience. Your New Role As a Support worker you will ensure that you listen to the needs and feelings of the young person to enable you to facilitate any necessary help that they need, including interventions and signposting them to other support services to give them every opportunity to get the help that they need and deserve. Key Purpose of the Post To be responsible for providing a comprehensive maintenance, repair and new work electrical service, with particular reference to electrical work on all buildings and equipment at Council-owned/managed properties, including the formal issue of compliance certification. To undertake all electrical duties, including diagnosing and repairing faults as required, and responding to call-outs and emergencies in a timely manner, including out-of-hours. To ensure full compliance with all Health and Safety at Work legislation in accordance with the Council's Health and Safety at Work Policy and all associated procedures, guidance and legislation, and to be an advocate for high standards of Health and Safety performance. Main Duties of the Post Carry out routine maintenance, inspection and regular servicing of the Council's assets such as offices, buildings, plant and machinery. Utilise and update maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with a planned preventative maintenance procedure. Attend to defects and breakdowns and carry out repairs as a matter of urgency to ensure minimum disruption and loss of downtime. Be prepared to work overtime as and when required, including Bank and Public Holidays. Identify stock requirements and ensure ordering of all necessary materials using current procurement procedures while maintaining all inventory records. Carry out modifications and improvements to lighting, electrical distribution systems, building plant equipment and machinery as identified from time to time. Undertake inspections to monitor and advise on the safety and adequacy of electrical installations, ancillary plant areas, switch rooms and equipment. Be responsible for identifying and managing maintenance and new work for outside contractors and Council employees, as required. Be prepared to be sufficiently flexible to carry out other trade duties ancillary to the main job requirements (e.g. wall/floor tracking, duct work, minor plaster repairs and making good render when related to electrical works). Liaise with and direct internal and external stakeholders, including works staff, departmental staff, contractors and members of the public where necessary. Undertake driving and operation of Council fleet vehicles and carry out daily inspection procedures on allocated vehicles, including completion of records, defect sheets and vehicle logbooks. The postholder may have access to a shared van and, in such instances, will collect and return the van to the Council premises daily. The vehicle must be kept tidy and cleaned once a week. The postholder may also be required to use their own transport to meet the needs of the post. Complete formal electrical installation certificates, minor electrical installation works certificates, periodic inspection reports and standard forms, including timesheets, work request forms, records of materials used or required, task times and work undertaken. Competently use Microsoft Office packages to prepare reports and other IT packages for logging and recording information as required. Undertake duties including, but not limited to: Essential Criteria Applicants must: a) Be a qualified time-served Electrician with a minimum of three years' appropriate post-apprenticeship experience and be up to date with electrical practices, including experience of lone working on a construction site or similar environment. b) Possess the following approved electrical installation qualifications: i. NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services, or an equivalent approved legacy qualification. ii. BS 7671 IEE Wiring Requirements Qualification - Level 3 Award in Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671:2008+A3:2015 (17th Edition). iii. If the successful applicant does not already hold the 18th Edition BS 7671 IEE Wiring Requirements Qualification, they will be required to achieve the qualification within six months of appointment. Ability to work at heights, outdoors and in confined spaces while undertaking the duties of the role. Hold a current valid driving licence and have access to suitable transport to undertake the duties of the post. Knowledge and understanding of current Health and Safety requirements and legislation within the Electrical Industry. Experience in undertaking electrical maintenance, inspection, repair and new work, including the issue of formal installation and inspection certification. Ability to work independently, provide solutions to faults and defects, prioritise competing tasks and confidently deal with a range of projects undertaken by the Council. Experience of reading and understanding electrical drawings and competence in the use of IT equipment, including email and Microsoft Office packages.
