Clinical Midwife/nurse Manager, University Maternity Hospital
Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH) is a 150 bedded Tertiary Referral Centre for Maternity, Neonatology and Gynaecology located on the campus of Cork University Hospital. CUMH incorporates the Obstetric, Gynaecology, Paediatric and Neonatology Services in the Cork University Hospital Group within the Health Service Executive Southern West region. CUMH has approximately 7, 000 births per annum and is a tertiary referral centre. Services at CUMH are delivered within the HSE South West region which is based on the principles of partnership and integration and strongly supports the involvement of the multidisciplinary team in service provision. CUMH is the site for clinical placements for student midwives and student nurses in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes delivered in partnership with University College Cork. CUMH Services incorporates the use of the MN-CMS (Maternal Newborn Clinical Management System) into care delivered at CUMH. There are four Maternity Units in the South/South West Hospital Group – University Hospital Waterford, University Hospital Kerry, Cork University Maternity Hospital and South Tipperary General Hospital - spanning four of the largest counties in the country. Maternity Services includes Neonatology and Gynaecology as well as Midwifery and Obstetrics. The Group’s Primary Academic partner is University College Cork. A wide range of educational programmes and research is conducted within all hospitals in the Group. Six Health Regions have been established within the HSE, on the basis of the geographical boundaries agreed by the Government in July 2019 and they will be operational from 2024. Each Health Region will be tasked with population-specific planning resourcing and delivery of health and social care services for the needs of its unique population. This will result in improved accountability and governance in terms of finance and performance, while also bringing decision-making closer to the frontline. Health Regions will enable and empower staff to provide services that are: · Integrated, locally planned and delivered · Easier to access and navigate · Available closer to home Health Regions are geographically-based units with clearly defined populations. They align community and hospital services within specific areas. The HSE will retain a strong but leaner central organisation, with more service provision developed at a local level. Purpose of the Post The Senior Dietitian will:- · This post will work primarily in Bariatric perioperative care alongside Level 3 Centre for Obesity Management. · Provide obesity management programme in conjunction with the Consultant Endocrinologist, and MDT members incorporating: Ø Assessment and intervention using Nutrition Care Process and 5As models in collaboration with the person and their integrated care plan Ø Existing best practice care pathways for perioperative Bariatric surgical care. Ø Liaise with St Vincent Hospital Group and St Micheals Hospital regarding new and existing best practice pathways for care of perioperative Bariatric surgical patients. Ø Existing best practice care pathways for the management of complicated obesity in conjunction with the Level 3 Service in St. Columcille’s Hospital Participate and provide training for wider service initiatives for Obesity Management Principal Duties and Responsibilities Professional/ Clinical Key Duties and Responsibilities · Delivery of specialist behavioural weight management interventions as part of a multidisciplinary Level 3 Centre for Obesity Management Service – including evidence based behavioural and dietary plans, dietetic support for patients using weight loss medications and use of low calorie diets in an in-patient rehabilitation setting. · Dietary management pre- and post- bariatric surgery as part of Level 4 Bariatric Service – including delivery of surgery assessment and screening / education groups, telephone support and delivery of dietetic component of post op MDT surgical clinics. · Liaise with the MDT in the planning of integrated patient care. This involves attending and presenting at weekly MDTs and clinical meetings as appropriate, within the Endocrine Services · Liaise with hospitals within the service care pathway regarding dietetic support for patient undergoing Bariatric surgery. · Delivery of skill based cookery classes within the Level 3 Centre for Obesity Management Service · Implement Hospital Group Standards, take part in quality assurance initiatives, and contribute to the development, monitoring and review of standards of patient care · To participate in undergraduate dietetic training and research projects where appropriate · To identify and address dietetic and nutrition educational needs of all medical, nursing, health and social care professionals, catering and other health personnel · Share expertise with other staff members, within the MDT · To keep abreast of current advances in relevant aspects of nutrition & dietetics by undertaking CPD activities e.g. attending appropriate study days, journal club, conferences etc. · To work in close co-operation with the catering department to ensure the nutritional needs of patients on therapeutic diets are catered for · To maintain records regarding patient’s treatment and to collect statistics in line with hospital nutrition and dietetic service policy · To participate in staff health & wellbeing initiatives as appropriate · Effective management of caseload including prioritisation of patient needs, adequate time for administrative duties, and communication with other department leads. Education & Training The Dietitian, Senior will: · Attend mandatory training programmes. · Maintain professional knowledge on relevant scientific research and practice development. · Maintain standards of practice and levels of clinical knowledge by participating in continuous professional development initiatives and attendance at relevant courses as appropriate. · Engage in career and personal development planning in collaboration with the Dietitian Manager. · Provide induction and mentoring to professional colleagues. S/he will be open to reflective practice. · Act as a resource by participating in the education and training of dietetic colleagues, other health professionals and service user groups as required. · Manage, participate and play a key role in the practice education of student Dietitians. · Participate in the development and evaluation of nutrition education resource material.
