Economics Phd Internships
The Central Bank of Ireland serves the public interest by safeguarding monetary and financial stability and by working to ensure that the financial system operates in the best interests of consumers and the wider economy .The Central Bank seeks researchers for a duration of up to 11 months under its Economics Internship Programme, though can support a shorter internship where applicable. This role is an internship position aligned with the Bank Executive salary scale. Successful applicants will be placed on the first point of the scale which is currently €39,090 per annum. There are currently 5 internships available across the Irish Economic Analysis Division, Monetary Policy Division, International Finance Division, Macro-Financial Division and the Digital Euro Unit in our Economics and Statistics Directorate, Financial Stability Directorate and the Financial Operations Directorate, respectively. These business areas provide opportunities to conduct high-quality research to support policy discussions and risk assessments within the Central Bank. While efforts are made to align the work of interns with their own research interests and skills, they are expected to work and collaborate on a project of live interest to the Bank. Potential research topics and areas include; International Finance Division: Research to assess the systemic risks emanating from the activities of non-bank entities (such as investment funds, money market funds and hedge funds) and to understand the potential benefits of macroprudential policy to mitigate such risks. Irish Economic Analysis : Research on productivity, investment and trade, household consumption and saving, wages and labour market dynamics and drivers of inflation using a range of micro and macroeconometric tools and datasets, including semi-structural and DSGE models. Digital Euro Unit: Research on the drivers and implications of the rapidly evolving payments landscape, including the role of Central Banks and the private sector, digitalisation and innovation, and user behaviours and preferences. Monetary Policy Division : Research on the measurement and drivers of inflation, monetary policy transmission and effectiveness in response to a range of different shocks and macroeconomic environments. Macro-Financial Division : Research on systemic risks (cyclical and structural) and quantifying downside tail risks to domestic financial stability, measuring the resilience of borrowers (firms and households) and lenders, including through macroprudential stress testing, and measuring the costs, benefits, and transmission of macroprudential policies.The Economics and Statistics, Financial Stability and Financial Operations directorates are collegiate working environments and successful candidates will have available to them a wide range of supports including software, conference attendance, training and supervision from an experienced economist.
