Consultant General Paediatrician

Purpose of role: The Consultant Paediatrician post will work alongside the existing consultant General Paediatricians to further advance the development of the Department of General paediatrics across the Children’s Health Ireland sites. This role will also work with colleagues cross city to development the departments at the new paediatric Outpatients and Urgent Care Centres at Connolly and Tallaght. The appointment of additional consultant general paediatricians will allow for planning and implementing new models of care including rapid access clinics and GP liaison services and new models of inpatient care including the consultant of the week model, in line with the National Model of Care, once a sufficient number of paediatricians have been appointed. This post will continue to support the introduction of additional capacity for the provision of outpatient clinics, improving access for patients to the most appropriate clinician. This post will continue to support the development of the cross-city Department of General Paediatrics, continuous quality improvement with the department and improved access for patients. The appointee with work closely with sub-specialty consultant colleagues across the five sites and with members of the multidisciplinary team to maximise patient care and outcomes. Details Of the Service Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH) is a 150 bedded Tertiary Referral Centre for Maternity, Neonatology and Gynaecology located on the campus of Cork University Hospital. CUMH incorporates the Obstetric, Gynaecology, Paediatric and Neonatology Services in the Cork University Hospital Group within the Health Service Executive South West region. CUMH has approximately 7, 000 births per annum and is a tertiary referral centre.
