Senior Occupational Therapist in Neuromuscular Service Purpose of the Role As an integral member of the National Neuro-muscular Multidisciplinary Team, the post-holder will deliver a comprehensive occupational therapy service to the children and young people attending the service. This CHI service operates out of CHI at Tallaght and Temple Street, and supports MDT clinics run within the Central Remedial Clinic (CRC). Children and young people attending this service are supported by local services and the role at tertiary level is for on-going management, advice and support of the child, the family and the local teams. Function, activity and participation are at the core of the Neuromuscular service, and the post-holder will be in a strong position to encourage a positive, enablement approach to disability. This role is mainly outpatient clinic-based supporting children and their families within their localities. The role comprises of close liaison with families and communicating closely with his/her counterparts in local services, to monitor and be anticipatory/ responsive to the children’s functional presentations. This post holder will required to support children during their hospital stays in CHI at Temple Street and/or will be required to liaise closely with OT and MDT colleagues to plan for and advice on their hospital management, when admitted under various medical specialities. The post-holder will act as a specialist resource nationally, guiding and supporting the local occupational therapist of each child. The post-holder is expected to develop and grow the relationships with local services. Clinical Nurse Specialist, Burns And Plastics

Purpose of the Role The care of a child with a burn, plastic injury or a condition requiring plastic surgery is complex and requires a multi-disciplinary team approach. The care must be coordinated and delivered using an individualised approach which meets the specific needs of each child. The CNS role is central to this and supports caring for children within the burns and plastics service, acknowledging the impact of the child’s condition not only on the child’s quality of life, but also on the child’s family as a whole. The CNS coordinates the multi-disciplinary care and management of these children and their families as requested by the MDT throughout the organisation. The CNS also has a role in giving advice and provides wound reviews, including ED attendances, dressing clinic for repeat dressings. This will assist with specialist advice for all patients and consistency in the approach of care. They will play a role in regards to advise, consultation and escalation of wounds to the appropriate teams. The purpose of the CNS in Burns & Plastics is to improve the quality and service of care through the following: · The CNS will be part of the MDT team caring for patients with a burn or plastics injury or requiring plastic surgery, during their attendance at the Burns &Plastics & Trauma dressing clinic · The CNS will provide specialist nurse practice ensuring competence in the care. · The CNS will be an advocate for patients with Burns and Plastics injuries, and for a child requiring plastic surgery. · The CNS will be a resource for colleagues and allied health professionals of the MDT. · The CNS will be responsible for providing a nursing, education and management consultation service in all areas of the care of children within burns, plastics and wounds. · The CNS will provide a service which optimises quality and continuity of care for patients within the burns and plastics service. · The CNS will contribute to the general organisation and facilitation of the day to day running of the Burns & Plastics service, and will also be a resource to the MDT of other wounds and be involved in the development and strategic planning of the burns and plastics service. · The CNS will coordinate dressing clinic for patients that require ongoing dressings and wound review. Essential Criteria: AND Have a minimum of 1 years’ post registration full time experience or an aggregate of 1 years’ full time experience in the division of the register in which the application is being made AND Have a minimum of 1 years’ experience or an aggregate of 1 years’ full time experience in specialist area of acute paediatric burns and plastic surgery. AND (vi) Have successfully completed a post registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider which verifies that the applicant has achieved a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 9 or higher award that is relevant to the specialist area of care (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above), and in line with the requirements for specialist practice as set out by the National Council for Nursing and Midwifery 4th ed (2008). Alternatively provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute that they have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 9 or higher standard, relevant to the specialist area of care (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above), and in line with the requirements for specialist practice as set out by the National Council for Nursing and Midwifery 4th ed (2008) relevant to acute paediatric burns and plastic surgery. AND Be required to demonstrate that they have continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the specialist area or will be supported to obtain the required CPD. AND Have the ability to practice safely and effectively fulfilling his/her professional responsibility within his/her scope of practice.
