Medical Scientist / Biomedical Scientist- Blood Transfusion Purpose of the Role: The purpose of this post is to provide a safe, efficient, quality Blood Transfusion service in conjunction with the Chief Medical Scientist, to satisfy the needs and requirements of service users and in in compliance with the requirements of international standard ISO15189. Clinical Midwife/nurse Manager - General, University Maternity Hospital

Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH) is a 150 bedded Tertiary Referral Centre for Maternity, Neonatology and Gynaecology located on the campus of Cork University Hospital. CUMH incorporates the Obstetric, Gynaecology and Neonatology Services in the Cork University Hospital Group within the Health Service Executive Southern region. CUMH has approximately 7,000 births per annum and is a tertiary referral centre. Services at CUMH are part of Ireland South Women’s and Infants Directorate (ISWID) delivered within the HSE South West is based on the principles of partnership and integration and strongly supports the involvement of the multidisciplinary team in service provision. CUMH is the site for clinical placements for student midwives and student nurses in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes delivered in partnership with University College Cork. CUMH Services incorporates the use of the MN-CMS (Maternal Newborn Clinical Management System) into care delivered at CUMH. There are four Maternity Units within ISWID in South West Hospital Group – University Hospital Waterford, University Hospital Kerry, Cork University Maternity Hospital and South Tipperary General Hospital - spanning four of the largest counties in the country. Maternity Services includes Neonatology and Gynaecology as well as Midwifery and Obstetrics. The Group’s Primary Academic partner is University College Cork. A wide range of educational programmes and research is conducted within all hospitals in the Group. The post holder will be employed as part of the multidisciplinary team at Cork University Maternity Hospital. Services includes bed management and hospital services that operate under the governance of Cork University Maternity Hospital. Reconfiguration of Services Cork & Kerry The Reconfiguration roadmap was published on the 22nd November 2011. It outlines a plan of how, why and where we deliver our acute hospital services. Purpose of Post The appointment of the Clinical Nurse Manager II (OPAT) is an essential element in the provision of effective, high quality, integrated care for patients needing IV antimicrobials outside the Acute Hospital. The purpose of the role is to identify suitable patients, support and educate patients and carers, liaise with all stakeholders regarding service provision and to co-ordinate/ lead weekly clinic follow up. They will employ the core concepts of the their role to provide a person centred, specialist nursing service to all patients needing IV antimicrobials whose discharge from an in-patient setting may be facilitated with the support of the OPAT service. They will provide a collaborative link to achieve integration between primary care and secondary care providers. The Clinical Nurse Manager II role calls for flexibility and adaptability, and an ability to prioritise and take initiative. The Clinical Nurse Manager II will facilitate the roll-out of the OPAT programme throughout the hospital.
