Impact, Project Manager

Childrens Health IrelandDublin

Purpose of the role IMPACT-EU aims to establish Europe-wide standards for psychosocial care in paediatric oncology, ensuring comprehensive support throughout the treatment journey, including the transition to adult care. The project will develop evidence-based guidelines tailored specifically to Europe, through an international consensus process involving healthcare professionals, patient advocates, and experts in psychosocial care. This will begin with a systematic review of existing standards and recent scientific literature. The project will map current psychosocial services across Europe, identifying gaps and resources to improve care. Surveys will be conducted with paediatric oncology centres across the EU to collect data on services, personnel qualifications, and funding models, while qualitative studies will investigate the role of patient and parent organizations in delivering support outside formal healthcare settings. To address training gaps, the project will deliver a comprehensive program, including an Educational Master Course for psychosocial care professionals, an e-learning platform for healthcare providers, and peer support training. These efforts will help healthcare teams offer holistic, patient-centred care and foster collaboration across regions. Finally, IMPACT-EU will pilot psychosocial screening and therapeutic tools in five centres across different European settings. By using tools such as the Psychosocial Assessment Tool (PAT), Little Nirvana and My Logbook, the project will help healthcare providers identify and meet patients' psychosocial needs early, improving outcomes. The National Children Cancer Service is one of the 5 centres that will benefit from these implementation plans. The 5 centres are based in Ireland, Spain, Belgium, Slovakia and Romania. Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) is Ireland’s largest pediatric hospital and the leading Centre in Ireland for the conduct of clinical trials and studies in children and young adults. As part of ongoing development towards the opening of the new Children’s Hospital, rationalization and integration of the existing clinical research infrastructure across all sites has been undertaken with all aspects of the clinical research infrastructure being brought together under a single governance and management structure. This consists of a new Clinical Research Centre (CRC) to support the conduct of research across CHI sites, which links closely with the existing Cancer Clinical Trials Unit (CCTU) at CHI at Crumlin for clinical trials in pediatric cancer. Both the CRC and CCTU are made up of a team of dedicated research staff to support clinical teams in the conduct of clinical trials and other research studies. The Clinical Research Coordinator/Clinical Research Associate plays a central role in this, coordinating and acting as key point of contact for multiple studies and providing back-up a and providing back-up and from set-up through to closeout. They will link in closely with the CRC Operations Manager, CCTU Manager and Research Project Managers, as well as Principal Investigators and clinical research teams to ensure that study activities are carried out effectively and in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.
