Details of Service Six Health Regions have been established within the HSE, on the basis of the geographical boundaries agreed by the Government in July 2019. Each Health Region will be tasked with population-specific planning resourcing and delivery of health and social care services for the needs of its unique population. This will result in improved accountability and governance in terms of finance and performance, while also bringing decision-making closer to the frontline. Health Regions will enable and empower staff to provide services that are: · Integrated, locally planned and delivered · Easier to access and navigate · Available closer to home Health Regions are geographically-based units with clearly defined populations. They align community and hospital services within specific areas. The HSE will retain a strong but leaner central organisation, with more service provision developed at a local level. The HSE South West Health Region will manage and deliver all public health and social care services in Cork and Kerry. Staff Nurse, Kells Gynaecology Ward, University Hospital
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University Hospital Kerry, provides comprehensive services for ante-natal, intra-natal, post-natal mothers and their babies and also for women who require gynaecological / colposcopy services. Maternity and Gynaecology Services at UHK are delivered based on the principles of partnership and integration and strongly supports the involvement of the multidisciplinary team in service provision. There are four Maternity Units as part of the Ireland South Women & Infants Directorate-University Hospital Waterford, University Hospital Kerry, Cork University Maternity Hospital and South Tipperary General Hospital - spanning four of the largest counties in the country. Maternity Services includes Neonatology and Gynaecology/Colposcopy as well as Midwifery and Obstetrics. The Areas Primary Academic partner is University College Cork. A wide range of educational programmes and research is conducted within all hospitals in the region. Health Region Implementation Central to the Sláintecare vision is the reorganisation of the HSE into six new health regions, in turn divided for operational purposes into a number of Integrated Health Areas, and a revised national structure which supports this model. The 3 IHA in the HSE South West are Cork South and West, Cork North and East and Kerry. UHK sits within Integrated Health Area (IHA) Cork South and West. The new regional structures will provide the organisational and aligned corporate and clinical governance arrangements to enable population-based planning, management, and delivery of integrated care for people within a region. These new arrangements aim to improve the health service’s ability to deliver timely integrated care to patients and service users, care that is planned and funded in line with their needs at regional and local level. The primary objective of this reform is to help deliver universal and integrated care for people, providing them with timely access to the care they need, when they need it. This will help to ensure that the needs of people are prioritised by promoting a culture that seeks to continuously improve the access to, and quality of, health and social care services. This will be achieved by refining processes and minimising structural barriers to integrated care thereby increasing productivity and the consistency, effectiveness, and efficiency of services. The structure and associated functions of the Health Regions are evolving in line with the implementation of the Health Regions programme to achieve a clinically led, professionally managed, integrated governance structure which will result in: An integrated approach to management, governance and service delivery across hospital-based and community-based services • The delivery of high-quality and safe services • Regional and national consistency in quality and standards of care • High standards in clinical aspects of governance • Sustainable quality assurance and improvement • Bringing decision making closer to the point of care with increased responsiveness • More streamlined care pathways for patients within and across specialties, organisations and functions • Clarity of responsibility and accountability for all staff • Integrated planning and delivery of services across the pathway of care • Optimisation of resources across the region with an increasing focus on productivity in the public interest. Purpose of the post The Staff Nurse will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to the highest professional and ethical standards within the model of nursing care practiced in the relevant care setting. Assistant Staff Officer
University Hospital Kerry (UHK) is a Level 3 Acute teaching Hospital, providing comprehensive medical and surgical services for adults and children and maternity services to women in the surrounding catchment area. The hospital has 273 inpatient beds and 24 day beds and provides acute hospital services to a catchment area of Kerry, North Cork & West Limerick it services a population of approx. over 180,554. In addition, the Kerry area has quite a large visiting population – Bord Fáilte/ Shannon Development estimate there are approximately 2 million tourists visiting this region annually, principally during the summer months. The 24/7 Emergency department cares for 36,000 Emergency presentations average annual activity levels of approximately 13,000 Inpatient discharges, 11,000 Day Cases Presentations and 54,000 Outpatient Attendances.

Physiotherapy Assistant
The physiotherapy assistant will work as part of the physiotherapy team, under the guidance and supervision of CORU registered physiotherapists to provide a high quality patient-centred physiotherapy service. The role includes clinical and non-clinical duties that support the physiotherapy service in the provision of a quality service to all users. The physiotherapy assistant may be assigned to one clinical team i.e. outpatients, frailty, cardiorespiratory, specialist (rehabilitation) but will be required to provide cover to other teams at times as required.
