Senior Speech & Language Therapist
BROTHERS OF CHARITY SERVICES IRELAND – WEST REGION POST OF PERMANENT PART-TIME SENIOR SPEECH & LANGUAGE THERAPIST WEST GALWAY SERVICES, GALWAY JOB REF: 74408 A panel may be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent Senior Speech & Language Therapist appointments within the Services may be made over the next 6 months. The Role: We are seeking dynamic Senior Speech and Language Therapists to join our evolving Speech and Language Therapy Department, providing services to adults with an intellectual disability and supported by Brothers of Charity Services Ireland - West Region. This post is permanent part-time, 42 hours per fortnight and is based in Galway city and West County Galway. An opportunity for additional hours maybe considered on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will support school leavers, new to the Brothers of Charity Services Day Services, one day per week. There will be opportunities to develop skills to support adults with an intellectual disability in the areas of FEDS, Communication, AAC and Digital and Accessible technology within a supportive SLT team and within the context of the multidisciplinary team. Qualifications/Skills: Successful candidates must be: Currently registered with CORU, the regulator for health and social care professionals, and eligible for membership of the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (I.A.S.L.T.). Qualifications as follows: Bachelor of Science in Clinical Speech and Language Studies, University of Dublin, Trinity College Dublin or, Bachelor of Science (Speech and Language Therapy), UCC/NUIG or, Master of Science in Speech and Language Therapy (Professional Qualification), University of Limerick or A Speech & Language qualification approved for registration with CORU and equivalent to the above. A dysphagia qualification or equivalent as outlined in “Standards of Practice for Speech & Language Therapists on the Management of Feeding, Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Disorders (Dysphagia)” Irish Association of Speech & Language Therapists (IASLT) 2012 is essential for this post. Current skills at a basic independent practitioner level and experience in managing a FEDS caseload are highly desirable. A full clean Driving Licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish Roads and use of your own car is an essential requirement. Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post. Experience: This post is suitable for a Speech and Language Therapist with: • A minimum of three years post graduate clinical Speech and Language Therapy experience. • Clinical experience in the management of feeding, eating, drinking and swallowing disorders. • FEDS skills at a basic independent competency level (IASLT 2012) is highly desirable. • One year clinical experience in the management of adults with an intellectual disability. • Training and / or experience in the use of Lámh,Talking Mats, AAC etc. Working hours: Permanent post - 42 hours per fortnight. The hours may be worked as three full days or four/five shorter days per week, to be agreed with the Speech and Language Therapy Manager. An opportunity for additional hours maybe available on a temporary basis. Annual Leave: 29 days pro-rata per annum. Remuneration: Department of Health Speech and Language Therapist, Senior salary scale (01st October 2024) - €62,038 x 8 increments - €73,048 pro-rata per annum. Tenure: Permanent, part-time and pensionable. Travel base: The person appointed must provide his/her own car and must furnish an indemnity from Insurers in favour of the employer. Travelling expenses at the appropriate rate will be paid in respect of travel necessarily performed in the discharge of duty. Work and travel base will be agreed on appointment. The location will be Woodlands Campus, Renmore, Co. Galway. This may be subject to change with service developments and needs.
