The Role The Librarian is the first entry-level Professional Management role and is central to the delivery of frontline and service support of Public Library Services, involving responsibility for managing resources, staff and library services to the public. HGV Fleet Mechanic/Fitter

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the role of HGV Fleet Mechanic/Fitter Monaghan Fire Service in Monaghan County Council. The post holder will, on appointment, be responsible for performing the duties and responsibilities described below appropriate to the post of HGV Fleet Mechanic/Fitter. The HGV Fleet Mechanic/Fitter will report to the Chief Fire Officer or other duly authorised person within the Monaghan Fire and Civil Protection. The HGV Fleet Mechanic/Fitter will be responsible for the proactive and reactive maintenance of all Fire Service and Civil Defence vehicles, including Class B appliances, specialist vehicles, personnel carriers and support units. The role will encompass scheduled preventive maintenance, defect diagnosis, and repairs, as well as oversight of compliance with CVRT standards. Additionally, the mechanic will gradually assume responsibility for auxiliary systems such as pumps, generators, and ladder gantries, which will initially be serviced by subcontractors until the mechanic is fully trained. The initial employment shall be Monaghan Fire Station, but the Council may, at its absolute discretion, assign the employee to such work base as may be required from time to time. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The HGV Fleet Mechanic/Fitter will be required to carry out all the duties allocated by the Council under the direction and supervision of the relevant supervisor. It is understood that there will be occasions outside of normal working hours when the person employed will be assigned to cover breakdowns. The Council requires that the carrying out of such duties be in a spirit of co-operation and good will. The duties will include but are not limited to: Monaghan County Council invites applications from suitably qualified persons, who wish to be considered for inclusion on a panel from which permanent and temporary vacancies for the post of HGV Mechanic/Fitter Monaghan Fire Service shall be filled. The person employed will be expected to report to their place of work, or pick-up point by their own means of transport. The post-holder may be required to work overtime depending on work requirements and be available to respond to callouts outside of normal working hours at the request of his/her Line Manager or persons appointed to positions of authority. Where possible the post-holder will be notified in advance. Overtime will be paid at approved rates. Annual Leave Granting of annual leave, payment for annual leave and arrangement for Public Holidays will be governed by the provisions of the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997. The annual leave entitlement will be 25 days per annum. Health For the purpose of satisfying the requirement as to health it will be necessary for each successful candidate, before he/she is appointed, to undergo a medical examination by a qualified medical practitioner to be nominated by the local authority. Garda Vetting/Child Protection The successful candidate(s) may be subject to the Garda Vetting Procedures and will be required to complete Appendix V of the County Council’s Child Protection Policy. Residence The successful candidate(s) shall reside in the district in which his or her duties are to be performed, or within a reasonable distance thereof. Training Successful candidates will be required to attend and participate in training programmes as may be decided by the local authority relevant to the skills necessary for the performance of the duties attached to the post and to apply their learning in the course of their working activities. The successful candidate for this post shall undertake training for Health and Safety, technical skills and general performance as required. Driver’s Licence The holder of the post shall hold a current full clean driving licence in respect of category C vehicles or equivalent in the EU Model Driving License. The successful candidate will be required to provide their own transport in the course of their duties and maintain the vehicle to the satisfaction of the local authority. Monaghan County Council, as employer, must be indemnified on the insurance policy. Offer of appointment Monaghan County Council shall require any person to whom an appointment is offered to take up such appointment within a period of not more than one month from the date on which the offer is made. There are 28 elected members, approximately 990 staff and an annual operating budget of €204 million in 2026. Clare County Council provides a diverse range of services across a large geographic area. Key services areas include Planning, Placemaking & Economic Development, Rural & Community Development, Housing Services, Housing Activation & Delivery, Capital Infrastructure Delivery, Land Activation, Derelict Sites and Property, Transportation, Mobility and Health & Safety, Climate Action, Environment & Water Services, Fire Service, Building Control & Major Emergency Management, Tourism, Festivals & Events, Libraries, Arts & Cultural Services, Enterprise and Investment, along with and sports & amenities,. Clare County Council will, following the interview process, form a panel for the post of Lifeguard Instructor from which future relevant vacancies may be filled subject to sanction approval from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. The Active Ennis Leisure Complex is a complete indoor health and fitness arena with white flag accreditation, providing pool and gym-based activities for all individuals and clubs in Ennis and further afield. Active Ennis Leisure Complex has for many years had a great association with water safety and with the Lifeguard Service in particular. Many of the lifeguards who have guarded the beaches of Clare over the years availed of their early training in the pool. Active Ennis Leisure Complex is widely recognised as the centre of excellence for swim lessons in Clare. Our team of instructors has vast experience teaching adults and children at all levels from beginner to competitive swimmer. The principal duty of the Lifeguard Instructor shall be to safeguard the users of the pool by maintaining a constant observation of all swimmers while on duty. The successful candidate will also be tasked to work across other streams of activities provided within the Complex for example, teaching swimming classes, lifesaving lessons, aquafit classes, running camps, allowing the candidate to develop their career potential. Training will be provided. OR (b) Applicants who hold a lifeguard qualification from another recognised body can apply;  however, if successful, they must complete  and pass the National Pool Lifeguard Award Level 2 course from Water Safety Ireland before commencing employment. This course will be provided by Clare County council. (c) Hold a Full Swim Teacher Award/Qualification from Water Safety Ireland or equivalent. OR (d) Hold an Assistant Swim Teacher Award from Water Safety Ireland or Swim Ireland. Successful applicants must obtain a full Swim Teacher Award from Water Safety Ireland within their one-year probationary period. (e) A current Certificate in Occupational First Aid, or the ability to obtain this certification prior to commencement of employment. (f) Have a good standard of education to enable them to carry out their duties efficiently. The salary shall be fully inclusive and shall be as determined from time to time. Holders of the post will be paid at the appropriate point on the salary scale in accordance with the relevant Department Circular. Where the appointee has been serving elsewhere in the public service in an analogous grade and pay-scale and will be moving without break to another part of the public sector at an analogous grade, the appointment may be made at the appointee’s current point of scale. The rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. Starting pay for new entrants to the sector will be at the minimum of the scale.
