Care Assistant
Sligo/Leitrim Disability Services operates a model of community living and we currently have over 30 community group homes in areas throughout Sligo and Leitrim. This is expected to increase in line with the National Policy for Decongregation and Community Integration. Sligo/Leitrim Disability Services provides a wide range of health and personal social services to adults with disabilities. Services delivered through the model of health and social care include the following: · Residential placements · Day Services · Respite bed nights Service needs will require movement of Care Assistant staff between units/departments/relief duties as directed. Below is an outline of the principal duties a Care Assistant may carry out, as assigned and as directed. · Supporting service users/residents in directing their own lives · Acting as an advocate for service users/residents · Promoting participation of service users/residents in the running of the unit · Promoting the interaction of service users/residents with the community · Contributing to the development and implementation of behavioural support plans and multidisciplinary assessment and care plans · Acting as a key worker for named service users/residents · Person centred planning process · Accompanying service users/residents on general medical and hospital appointments · Attending to service users/residents person care and all activities of daily living e.g. assisting service users to maintain standards of personal hygiene, laundry, dietary intake and physical and mental health and any other personal needs · Preparing and serving food · Assisting with upkeep of general hygiene and cleanliness of facilities/accommodation Health & Safety · In accordance with Health and Safety at work policy, it is each staff members responsibility to observe all rules relating to Health and Safety and Conduct at Work and to use any equipment provided in a safe and responsible manner. · Understand and adhere to all relevant Health Service Executive (HSE) policies, guidelines and procedures, comply with health and safety, infection control and risk management procedures, comply with statutory obligations · Report any incident or potential incident which may compromise the health and safety of patient/ service users / residents, staff or visitors and take appropriate action. · Report any accidents, near misses to the person in charge and ensure completion of incident / near miss forms. · Not undertake any duty related to service user / resident care for which he/she is not trained. · Attend training courses as required e.g. CPR, Hygiene, HACCP, Fire Prevention, Studio III etc. · Conduct his / herself in a manner that ensures safe service users / client care. Education & Training · Attend induction and mandatory in-service education · Maintain continuous personal and participate in team based development, education, training and learning. · Participate in appraisal and the development of a personal development plan in conjunction with his / her line manager. Administrative Duties: · Attend staff meetings and contribute constructively to the smooth running of the unit · Participate and Contribute to the maintenance of updating of service users / resident documentation · To support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service. Community Support Service Social Care Worker positions available Applications are invited for the following position(S): Applicants will be considered for full and part time positions St. Michael's House is a community based organisation committed to providing a quality person centred service and high standard of living to people with an intellectual disability in the greater Dublin area. St.Michael’s House is committed to providing individualized supports to people so that they can enjoy experiences, opportunities and lifestyles similar to their peers. We are presently recruiting for a permanent and temporary Social Care Workers to work in our Community Support Service. We currently provide supports to 37 people with an intellectual disability to live as independently as possible in their own home in their chosen community. These supports enable the person to be an active and valued member of their community. The successful Social Care Worker candidate must have the following: Qualifications required · QQI Level 7 Bachelor of Arts in Applied Social Studies (Disability) - Open Training College; · Level 7 award in Social Care/Studies delivered by an Institute of Technology, DIT or National University of Ireland; · A qualification received outside the State recognised by NARIC as equivalent to the Irish Level 7 award. Experience Required · Have a minimum of 3 years experience working in the area of Intellectual Disability and supporting people with mental health issues · Possess a strong and proven commitment to the provision of a quality individualized service · Proven experience of accessing community based facilities & services and building links in the community with service users. · Experience working alongside Multi disciplinary Clinical teams to support the service user around matters such as Changing Needs, accessing appropriate housing & safeguarding concerns. · Be creative and resourceful in supporting the service user and also in identifying new opportunities for the Service User · Be able to demonstrate experience of positive risk management to support a service users will and preference. · Have a good awareness of advocacy how to best to promote the empowerment of Service Users and how best they can advocate for themselves and others · Full Clean driver license and willing to drive as part of the role is essential – Please indicate on your application that you have a full driving licence and have access to own transport Salary Scale: Successful candidates will be paid in line with 2024 HSE revised consolidated Social Care Worker pay scale Should you have no prior public sector experience you will be placed on point 1 of the pay-scale.
