Medical Senior House Officer - Immediate start - From April - 12th July 2026 Portiuncula University Hospital is a Model 3 hospital providing 24/7 acute surgery, acute medicine and critical care along with Emergency Department and maternity services to adults and children in the catchment areas of East Galway, Westmeath, North Tipperary, Roscommon and Offaly. The hospital has natural referral pathways to the Midlands, particularly in respect of patients that are referred in via the Emergency Department and discharged back for appropriate care i.e. orthopaedics, elderly care services etc. In addition, the hospital’s paediatric service has linkages with Crumlin Children’s Hospital for shared care arrangement in relation to oncology. Portiuncula has academic links with the University of Limerick post-graduate training, Medical Training Schemes for Interns, SHO’s and Registrars and an Overseas Medical Student Programme. In January 2013 a new medical academy opened on site in conjunction with NUI Galway. Description -Portiuncula University Hospital are advertising for the role of Senior House Officer in our General Medicine Department for our July 2025 rotation. Candidates must have active Irish Medical Council Registration. Previous experience in Ireland is desirable Candidates must have relevant experience to the role Portiuncula University Hospital comprises of 194 beds which includes plans for a new 50 bed ward block opening in August 2024. Portiuncula University Hospital provides 24/7 acute surgery, acute medicine, critical care, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology along with a 24/7 Emergency Department which had 30,283 attendances in 2023. The hospital serves the catchment areas of East Galway, Westmeath, North Tipperary, Roscommon and Offaly and has a natural referral pathway to the Midlands. Ballinasloe is the largest town in County Galway. The town has excellent junior and secondary schools and is close to the University of Galway and the Technology University of Shannon in Athlone. The town is served by public transport to the major centres. The area offers an abundance of sports, leisure and entertainment facilities. The town offers easy access to major regional centres of Galway City. Education & Training: Portiuncula University Hospital is a recognised site for training of undergraduate medical students from University of Galway and graduate entry medical students from University of Limerick. We are an accredited site for intern training for the West North West Intern Training program. We offer Basic Specialist Training in General Medicine to Senior House Officers on the RCPI training program and also an approved site with the ICGP West training scheme for GP training. We have international trainees on the CPSP program through RCPI and we also have Basic and Higher Specialist trainees in Surgery, Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. There is formal structured weekly teaching for all medical staff in general internal medicine topics, MRCP teaching and exam preparation, advanced clinical skills training and inter professional simulation based education in the care of the deteriorating patient on a monthly basis. Travel & Events Administrator
Overall Role Objective To provide an efficient and effective administrative support service for the Travel Department. Job Specific Responsibilities The post holder will: Generate and prepare documents, letters, reports, memos, and other correspondence accurately and professionally. Ensure that computerised information systems and spreadsheets are accurate and regularly updated. Complete all administration associated with the Travel Department. Check and process all invoices and forward them to relevant departments for payment. Assist in the coordination of company drivers and customer visits. Respond to general written, telephone, and email enquiries in an accurate and timely manner. Handle incoming and outgoing mail. Order and organise stationery. File, photocopy, and carry out general travel administration, including digital filing, as required. Ensure that files are kept up to date and archived as required. Maintain confidentiality in all work undertaken. Ensure accurate and tidy completion of all documentation. Report any known breaches of procedure or examples of substandard quality to the manager. Assist the Senior Travel and Events Co-ordinator in all areas and duties as required. Complete reconciliation of company credit cards on a monthly basis. Ensure all company pool car checks are completed, relevant paperwork is finalised, and vehicles are serviced and repaired as required. Other Duties Undertake any other duties within the competency of the post holder as directed by line management. This role may require coverage beyond normal working hours.
