Purpose of the Post The purpose of this post is to undertake swabbing and administrative duties as directed by Line Manager as set out in the principal duties and responsibilities. The Community Swabber will be required to be flexible and agile in response to service requirements. This is a Specified Purpose Contract for the duration of the pandemic (contract length will be indicated at job offer stage) with initial assignment to COVID 19 Testing Services. Principal Duties and Responsibilities The position of Community Swabber encompasses both swabbing and administrative responsibilities within the assigned service. The post encompasses the following areas of responsibility: • Obtain nasopharyngeal (swab from the nose) and oropharyngeal (swab from the Throat) swabs from persons refereed for Testing • Completion of associated administration during the testing process; confirm patient name & contact details; label tubes, package swab tubes etc • Support other administrative activities as required to support community testing • Ability to work within administrative function within HSE if and when testing centres demand decreases • Deal with members of the public attending health services • Work with Managers to promote the team work required to develop systems and structures for service improvement. • Maintain appropriate relationships with key stakeholders including other service providers. • Provide reports as required on daily weekly monthly basis as required. • Engage in pro-active communications with internal and external stakeholders, particularly focused on service interface initiatives. • Promote and participate in the implementation of organisational and service change as necessary. • Comply with obligations to protect patient Confidentiality and data at all times. • Any other duties as required from time to time as assigned by the Line Manager Health & Safety • In accordance with Health and Safety at work policy, observe all rules relating to Health and Safety and Conduct at Work and to use any equipment provided in a safe and responsible manner. • Understand and adhere to all relevant HSE policies, guidelines and procedures, comply with health and safety, infection control and risk management procedures, comply with statutory obligations. • Report any incident or potential incident which may compromise the health and safety of patient/ clients / residents, staff or visitors and take appropriate action. • Report any accidents, near misses to the person in charge and ensure completion of incident / near miss forms. • Not undertake any duty related to patient/client care for which he/she is not trained. • Attend training courses as required e.g. CPR, Hygiene, HACCP, Fire Prevention etc. • 3 • Conduct his / herself in a manner that ensures safe patient/ client care. • Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards as they apply to the role for example, Standards for Healthcare, National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards etc and comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role. • To support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service. Education & Training • Attend induction and mandatory in-service education. • As directed participate in the induction of new staff. • Maintain continuous personal and participate in team based development, education, training and learning. • Participate in performance review/ achievement and the development of a personal development plan in conjunction with and as required his / her line manager. Empty all waste paper bins.  Clean rooms: This includes cleaning all sinks and wash basins, sweeping/hovering the floor, washing the floors, washing/cleaning whiteboard & sill, cleaning/polishing desks and chairs, cleaning all surfaces, window boards, radiators, door handles & door panels, cleaning glass in door, emptying bins and placing full refuse sacks in designated area for collection by Caretaker.  Tidy staff room: This includes washing out the sink and fridge, cleaning all surfaces, loading dishwasher and putting it on, hoovering/washing the floor, cleaning all surfaces, window boards, radiators, door handles & door panels, cleaning glass in door, emptying bins and placing full refuse sacks in designated area for collection by Caretaker.  Hoover and dust all offices. 2  Clean doors and windows at entrances.  Buff corridors.  Ensure all lights are off before leaving school building/area of work.  Report any damage or breakages to Caretaker and leave any broken item out for repair/replacement.  Inform caretaker of any supplies to be ordered at least one week before they are needed.  Report to Principal and/or designated supervisor.  Report any misconduct to any teacher or to the Principal/Deputy Principal / Centre Head.  Any other duties as required. These instructions may be changed / updated from time to time as the needs of the school dictates and following consultation.
