Engineering Apprentice

Moore Concrete’s Apprenticeship Programme is an opportunity that we pride ourselves in offering to individuals studying all levels of apprenticeships, providing them with the platform to upskill, develop their knowledge and gain relevant work experience alongside their studies. We are currently recruiting an Engineering Apprentice to join our maintenance team. The purpose of this role is to allow individuals to upskill and develop throughout the business, which will coincide with their studies - benefitting them academically as well. We will work alongside each individual to help cater their needs to grow. Hours of Work: Hours will be variable between 32 - 48 hours per week as needed. Standard hours of work will be Monday – Friday 06:00am – 15:00pm or 08:00am to 17:00pm however flexibility to work overtime and/or Saturdays as necessary is essential. Please make HR aware of what day(s) you will require for day release to college / university. Outline Responsibilities: Depending on area within the business, apprentices will be expected to Bring high quality and efficient approach to all processes involved in. Use skills learnt within further education to bring across different approaches and outlooks on processes to work more efficiently – working alongside management to bring these points across. Learn and perform basic welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, and arc welding. Weld steel plates according to specifications and engineering drawings. Cut, shape, and prepare steel plates using hand tools and machinery. Ensure surfaces are clean and properly prepared for welding. Follow all workplace safety procedures, including PPE use and fire hazard prevention. Understand and apply welding safety protocols to prevent injuries and defects. Interpret engineering blueprints and welding symbols to execute accurate welds. Inspect welds for defects and ensure they meet industry standards. Learn how to use measuring tools for quality assurance. Keep welding tools, equipment, and workspaces clean and well-maintained. Assist in routine maintenance. Learn from supervisors and participate in on-the-job training. Any other duties as required by the Maintenance Manager. Essential Criteria: Willingness to learn and upskill Studying or applying to study a Engineering, Welding or similar apprenticeship. Understanding of Health & Safety at work. Flexibility in working hours and strong adaptability skills. Good communication and teamwork experience. Willing to clean and maintain working area. We have an on-site Apprentice Mentor who is available for unlimited support and guidance, as well as quarterly Apprentice Reviews to grasp a deeper understanding of what our Apprentices have learnt and how else we can accommodate them to help grow their technical ability within their role. We are offering joinery apprenticeships which will combine on-the-job learning with study and put the apprentice on the path to gaining a recognised qualification whilst gaining valuable experience in a busy joinery workshop. The successful candidate will complete in-house training to become a joiner/mould maker as part of our joinery team in the manufacturing of timber moulds for our civil engineering projects. The purpose of the role is to operate as part of a team in accordance with Company standards and targets, adhering to the daily production plan e.g., manufacturing timber moulds, carrying out tasks effectively and meeting the Health, Safety and Quality standards. Hours of Work: Hours will be variable between 32 - 48 hours per week as needed. Standard hours of work will be Monday – Friday 06:00 – 15:00 or 07:00 – 16:00 however flexibility to work overtime and/or Saturdays as necessary is essential. The ideal candidate will have the following: Working toward a Joinery/Carpentry Qualification Health and Safety awareness: understanding of H&S rules and procedures and adherence. Use skills learnt with further education to being different approaches and outlooks on processes to work more efficiently. Clear communication skills as part of a team, discussing matters and reporting to Supervisor when necessary.
