Cardiology Candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioner Chest Pain
There is currently one whole-time permanent Cardiology Candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioner (cANP) – Chest Pain post available in Sligo University Hospital. The role of cANP is required to progress to ANP within 3 years in the Cardiology Department of Sligo University Hospital. The successful candidate may be required to work in any service area within the vicinity as the need arises. This involves undertaking and documenting complete episodes of patient care (assess, diagnose, plan, treat and discharge patients) according to collaboratively agreed protocols and scope of practice in the clinical setting; demonstrating advanced clinical and theoretical knowledge, advanced critical thinking skills, clinical leadership and decision making skills. The main purpose of the cANP post is for the individual to develop their competencies and person specification documentation for the Cardiology cANP, Chest Pain post such that it enables the individual nurse to meet the NMBI Criteria for Registration as an Candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioner as set out in Candidate Advanced Practice (Nursing) Standards and Requirements (NMBI, 2017) within a specified time frame. The individual will undertake the academic preparation and develop the clinical and leadership skills, competencies and knowledge required to meet the criteria to be registered as a cANP with NMBI. The scope of the cANP role must reflect the incremental development of expertise and as such, the cANP cannot deliver care as an autonomous practitioner. The individual will complete and submit the necessary documentation for registration as an cANP with NMBI. The value of the nursing contribution as a distinct profession must be safeguarded and articulated in the development of new services led by advanced nurse practitioners, complementing rather than replacing current services delivered by doctors (NMBI 2017 p.9). The advanced practice role demonstrates a high degree of knowledge, skill and experience that is applied within the nurse-patient/client relationship to achieve optimal outcomes through critical analysis, problem solving and accurate decision making (NMBI, 2017). Central to this is the provision of quality care, a safe environment and processes for patients by the use of evidence based clinical guidelines that address patient expectations, promote wellness and evaluate care given. The role will provide clinical leadership and professional scholarship in order to develop nursing practice and health policy at local, regional and national level. The role will contribute to nursing research to shape and advance nursing practice, education and health care policy at local, national and international levels.
Bowel Screen Candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioner Gastroenterology
Job Title and Grade: Bowel Screen Candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioner (cANP) Gastroenterology (Nurse Endoscopist) Grade Code 2272 Location of Post: Sligo University Hospital (Ospidéal Ollscoile Shligigh) Sligo University Hospital (SUH) has a stand-alone Endoscopy Unit. It is located on the fourth floor of SUH and compromises of an admission/discharge/consultation room, 2 patient preparation rooms pre-procedure, 2 procedure rooms, 8 bedded recovery area, step down area post procedures, waiting area and offices. Decontamination facilities for endoscopes are on site within the endoscopy unit. The Endoscopy Unit at SUH is an accredited unit by the UK based Joint Advisory Group (JAG) and also has been an accredited National Bowel Screen Centre since 2012. The unit provides both an inpatient and outpatient service to patients undergoing Endoscopy procedures including colonoscopy, gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, bronchoscopy, EBUS, trans oesophageal echo (TOE) and a range of endoscopic interventions. There are currently 8 scheduled GI sessions per week, 2 bronchoscopy sessions and 1 BowelScreen list with the National Screening Service (NSS). There are currently, 2 CNM2’s, a Bowel Screen/ Pre assessment CNM2, Surgical pre assessment CNM2, Triage CNM2, Validation CNM2 and 1 RANP Gastroenterology/BowelScreen (Nurse Endoscopist) The unit has dedicated decontamination personnel. There is currently one permanent whole-time vacancy available for one permanent cANP. The cANP will be expected to progress to ANP and performing colonoscopy procedures independently within two years or who are eligible to register with NMBI in Gastroenterology. The successful candidate may be required to work in any BowelScreen service area within the HSE West North West as the service need arises. A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for HSE West and North West Health Region from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.
