Overview of Role Main Duties and Responsibilities To work on a busy hot and cold deli counter, serving food and preparation of ingredients. To monitor and action appropriately food records, hygiene records, equipment and waste. To communicate well with staff and students, recommending foods and assisting customers with their choices. To undertake cleaning duties associated with service and related equipment and or furniture maintaining excellent standards of hygiene. Working within a team to present and serve food. To advise the Lead Catering Assistant on stock levels, carrying out stock rotation and replenishment as necessary. To ensure the correct storage of food items and equipment after service. Other duties assigned by the Estates Manager or Lead Catering Assistant from time to time to ensure the smooth running of the service. General Operative Refuse

Fermanagh & Omagh District CouncilEnniskillen, Fermanagh£13.69 – £14.13 per hour

Location: Killyvilly Depot, Enniskillen. The postholder will be expected to travel across the district to meet the needs of the service. Hours of Work: 37 hours per week (Monday – Friday). On occasions you may be required to work during evenings, weekends, and outside normal hours to provide support in emergencies or unexpected events. You will be required to work public holidays. Salary: Scale 3+1; SCP 7-9; £13.69 - £14.13 per hour; £26,403 - £27,254 per annum. Salary will be paid on a monthly basis. Main Purpose of Job: To undertake the full remit of refuse collection duties as an integral part of the waste collection service. To work as a member of a team to provide an efficient and effective service and adhere to all health and safety measures. Key Areas of Work: Service Delivery: • To undertake the duties of the post at all times in a manner that enhances and promotes a positive image of the Council and its employees. • To deal with the public in a polite and courteous manner. • Assist and mentor new drivers with familiarisation of the route and other new crew members, as appropriate. • To work as part of the team at all times and, in particular, during periods of adverse weather conditions, and assist with, for example, gritting, snow clearance, debris clearance, and sandbagging where necessary. Health and Safety: • To take reasonable care for the health and safety of self and others at all times in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and the Council’s Codes of Practice and procedures. • To exercise proper care in the handling, operating, and safeguarding of tools, equipment, vehicles, or appliances in the operation of allocated duties. • To follow safe systems of working and attend toolbox talks and health and safety training. • Use and maintain any equipment provided such as lone working devices, in-cab systems, tracking, mobile communications, and logging systems. • To wear and take care of the designated PPE provided. • Report accidents, incidents, and near misses. Recording and Reporting: • To use and avail of electronic technology, e.g. mobile phones provided for communication purposes when it is safe to do so in line with road safety legislation and council policy. Use lone working devices and logging systems for maintenance management. • Report all incidents and complaints to your Supervisor/Line Manager. • Assist the driver in identifying maintenance issues with the vehicle, particularly the lifting gear. • Assist the driver by reporting issues with bins and reasons for non-collection, e.g. heavy bins, contamination of bins, excess waste presented for collection, illegal dumping, lost or damaged bins, or any other problems encountered on the collection run so they can be recorded on the in-cab device. Learning and Development: • Participate in planned learning and development and undertake designated training to ensure knowledge and skills are kept up-to-date. • Identify learning and development opportunities that will assist with improved service delivery. Main Duties and Responsibilities: • The role involves working outside in all weather conditions loading wheeled bins and food caddies onto refuse collection vehicles, ensuring the contents are loaded into the appropriate compartment, and returning bins to where they were found without blocking entrances or inhibiting sight lines. • Inspect bins to ensure compliance with Council procedures on recycling and waste management and ensure any rejected bins are marked with the appropriate sticker. Report any non-compliance, including excess waste presented for collection, contaminated waste bins, illegal dumping, lost or damaged bins, or any other problems encountered on the collection run to the driver so they can be recorded and reported on the in-cab device (or verbally to the Line Manager where the in-cab system is not operating, or to administrative support staff where the Line Manager is not available). • Ensure that replacement food waste bags are left with the customer when requested. • Ensure that any spillages which occur during collection are immediately cleared. • Assist with the recording, reporting, and stickering of damaged bins or bins that are in poor condition which present a health and safety issue. • Undertake all duties to assist the driver, as team leader, to ensure all work is completed according to the operational schedule. • Assist the driver in safe manoeuvring, acting as a reversing assistant at all times on the round or at the transfer station or landfill site. • Assist the driver where requested to input information to in-cab devices. • Operate the bin lifting mechanism in line with health and safety procedures at all times and ensure any defects to either the lifting gear or wheelie bins are reported to the driver. • Removal and return of bins safely to all assisted lift properties, taking care to carry out a dynamic risk assessment whilst doing so. • Assist with the communication of any alterations to normal service via direct communications with the public. • Help with the provision of on-the-job training to other employees and new starters as and when required. • Assist the driver to inform the Supervisor/Line Manager (or administrative support staff where the Line Manager is not available) of problem areas along the route to enable an informed response to queries from the public, e.g. roads closed, non-collection of bins for any reason, or illegal dumping. • Provide advice to residents/service users to assist them in managing their waste and actively promote the Council’s recycling initiatives through delivery of information leaflets and stickers as required, and provide accurate advice to the public regarding Council services. • Work with the driver and other staff to carry out dynamic risk assessments on new situations which may arise in the daily delivery of the service. • Be aware of underfoot conditions and the working environment, traffic, cyclists, pedestrians, heavy plant and equipment, etc., whilst complying with the safe systems and procedures in operation. • Attend team meetings as requested by the Line Manager. • When not undertaking refuse collection, assist with other waste management tasks including street sweeping, litter picking, clearing fly-tipping, bulky household collections, bin deliveries, and working at Household Recycling Centres. General • Ensure full compliance with all Health and Safety at Work legislation in accordance with the Council’s Health and Safety at Work policy and all associated procedures and guidance, and act as an advocate for high standards of health and safety performance. • Comply with all the Council’s policies and procedures including the Employee Code of Conduct and the Employee and Councillor Working Relationship Protocol. • Promote the Council’s equal opportunities policies and avoid all forms of discrimination as an employer and a service provider. • Comply with all Financial and Procurement policies and procedures. • Undertake the duties of the post at all times in a manner that enhances and promotes the positive image of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council. • The postholder will be expected to be flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs and requirements of the organisation.
