The Organisation Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI) is the national organisation providing support, services and advocacy for people with Down syndrome and their families across Ireland. With a National Office and 25 volunteer operational branches nationwide, DSI delivers information, education, therapy, employability and advocacy services, alongside fundraising and community engagement activities that are vital to our mission. Job Title: Self-Advocacy & Community Engagement Officer Reports to: Head of Adult Education, Self-Advocacy and Community Engagement Location: National Office with frequent nationwide travel to branch Contract :12 months fixed-term, subject to funding Salary: €40k - €45,500k pro-rota and depending on experience Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends for member meetings and events, with time off in lieu. This role may also be on a job share basis, 2 to 3 days per week each. Overview of Role This role is two-fold. The self-advocacy aspect of this role involves the development and coordination of self-advocacy groups within Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI), empowering adults with Down syndrome to voice their priorities, contributing to DSI strategy and national policy on topics such as rights, independent living, employment, education, housing and inclusion. The community engagement aspect of this role involves supporting the coordination, and delivery of inclusive, person-centred programmes and initiatives for people with Down syndrome. It involves empowering individuals, strengthening community connections, and promoting access to social, community and education opportunities across Ireland. Key duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Person specification Essential Level 8 qualification in a relevant field such as social work, community development, education or disability studies Proven experience working alongside people with intellectual disabilities in advocacy, facilitation, community development or education roles Excellent communication skills Experience supporting self-advocates Demonstrated group facilitation skills for inclusive, accessible meetings and activities Strong organisational abilities to manage a full-time workload, prioritise tasks and deliver projects on time Strong administration skills with competent in IT tools (MS Office/365, video platforms) for hybrid work, reporting and virtual facilitation Desirable Level 9 qualification in a relevant field such as social work, community development, education or disability studies Experience with advisory councils, policy consultations or stakeholder engagement in the disability sector Experience developing Easy Read materials Knowledge of Irish disability policy, entitlements and independent living supports. Project Worker
Siul Le simply means to walk with. The Good Shepherd Centre Clg are proposing a Pilot project in partnership with The Collective Sensory Group, supported by the HSE Disability Services. To initially operate for 12 months. The Siul Le Project. It is the partners experience that there is a cohort of service users in homeless services and/or housed with a disability or undefined life challenges who struggle to exit homeless services and/or settle and sustain long term housing and life opportunities. They are in fact a group susceptible to long-term homelessness and its recurring vulnerabilities with high-risk behaviours. In the main they are distant and estranged from services. The ability to assess and use this information from a multi-disciplinary perspective with the service user and to access services is a priority. For many of that cohort accessing homeless services this is due to family breakdown, experiences of violence and other vulnerabilities. In the south east the private rented sector has become unaffordable for social housing applicants. Housing supply is low, and the Housing Assistance Scheme (HAP) has a growing unpopularity among landlords. Individuals with sensory and development difficulties or with a disability in general can find this an impossible space to navigate to successful outcomes. The Local Authority Housing Disability Strategy for People with Disabilities continues to seek to prioritise access to supports and quality housing for service users with mild to severe disabilities. The Good Shepherd Centre and HSE will seek to agree targets with each of the local authority steering groups for access to Siul Le Service and likewise access to emergency and suitable long-term accommodation. The client group present with mild Intellectual disability, Autism, Attention Deficit Disorder, Dyslexia and a range of poor coping skills. Many have experienced family breakdown and/or struggle to access and/or sustain accommodation. They are vulnerable. Some have a history of addiction and high risk behaviours such as self-neglect and/or self-harm
Project Worker For The Homecare Programme
Introduction to the Model Homecare has been initiated as a customised model of high-level support to promoteindependent living in the community for mental health service users whose tenancies or home occupation are at risk because of ongoing challenges in relation to self-neglect, hoarding and/or incapacity to maintain their home to an adequate standard. It is a collaboration with Carlow County Council, the Carlow/Kilkenny HSE Mental Health Services and the Good Shepherd Centre, Kilkenny. It is informed by the National and Local Housing Strategies for People with a Disability, Sharing the Vision (Dept of Health, 2020), Housing for All- A new housing plan for Ireland( Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage , 2021) and the HSE’s National Recovery Framework (HSE, 2018). Funding has been sourced from the Kilkenny HSE Mental Health Services and the Good Shepherd Centre to employ a project worker through the Grant Aid process. Secure tenancies with support are recognized as the way forward for many of those with complex needs. The Good Shepherd Centre in conjunction with Mental Health Service Area 5 Kilkenny and in partnership with Kilkenny Local Authority will provide homecare support and a recovery orientated tenancy sustainment programme.

This is a 39 hours a week position. The role will involve assisting in the provision of Health & Social care in all aspects of daily life for our core members that we support. The Care assistant will build strong supportive relationships and assist our Core members with support in all aspects of daily living in line with the needs, will and preference of the individual and as outlined in an agreed care plan. He/she will ensure that they are being met through professional work pratices. We would ask that they must be flexible in their approach to service provision and should have the ability to work as a member of the team. The purpose and role is to build strong supportive relationships with our Core members, to be responsible for the daily routines and welfare of the Core members within the house you are working in. You will be accountable to the House Leader and Residential Coordiantor (PIC) and contribute by working closely with the members of the staff team, helping promote good practice, taking part in staff meetings and contributing to meeting objectives. To ensure that the Residential Service is run in keeping with the ethos and spirituality of L'Arche as outlined in our Identity and Mission Statements. To assist the House Leader and Deputy House Leader in regard to compiling and presenting reports as required. To work with the volunteer Live In Assistants for the smooth running of the house. To promote the dignity and image of the Core members. Must be willing to be flexible to cover the seven day roster that include days, nights, sleepover, late evenings and weekends. To maintain the Health and Safety of the working area, maintenance of written records, monitoring accidents, incidents, reporting and recording them appropriately. The applicant must have a minimum of a Fetac/QQI level 5 in Healthcare/Social Care. There is a six month probationary period applying to the employment and is subject to Garda vetting.
