Clerical Officer in the Civil and Public Service 2022

Department of Public Expenditure and ReformNationwide

1. Introduction Public Service bodies, including the Civil Service and certain public service agencies may, from time to time, require temporary clerical staff to fill full-time temporary vacancies in various locations throughout the country. Requests to fill many of these vacancies are undertaken through the Public Appointments Service (PAS). To facilitate possible demands, PAS will initiate a selection process to fill vacancies should they arise in particular areas. PAS will establish a panels of suitably qualified individuals to fill vacancies, which may arise in the various location choices across the Civil & Public Service. While temporary vacancies may arise at various times and for various reasons, many of the vacancies occur during the summer period. The terms and conditions, including the duration and period of temporary contracts offered will vary from post to post. Please note that a standard contract duration is for an eight-week period. 2. The Role The duties of Temporary Clerical Officers (TCOs) may vary depending on the nature of work carried out by the employing organisation. This involves such clerical/administrative tasks which may be assigned to the employee from time to time by the organisation. Before applying candidates should log-on to www.publicjobs.ie and, if they have not already done so, must register as a ‘New User’ to create a profile (register a new account). Please do not confuse registering (creating a profile) with submitting an application. Click on the button ‘Apply now’ to access the application. This button is located at the end of the job posting page for Temporary Clerical Officer 2022 on www.publicjobs.ie. You must ensure your candidate name, ID, and availability choice is correct before you submit. Once you have submitted your application you should return to your publicjobs account and confirm that it has been successfully submitted via ‘My Applications’. You should review your submitted application and ensure that it is fully completed and correct. At this point you should consider adding publicjobs.ie to your safe senders or contact list within your email account to avoid not receiving email because a publicjobs email has been blocked. Only fully completed and submitted applications will be accepted into the competition. The admission of a person to the competition, or invitation to undertake any element of the selection process is not to be taken as implying that the PAS or other body is satisfied that such a person fulfils the requirements. Only one application per person is permitted. On the application form you may select a maximum of one location choice, listed below, where you would be prepared to work if offered an appointment: You should only make a location choice where you would be prepared to work if offered an appointment. Changes to your location choice will not be permitted after the closing date. Vacancies for which you may be considered will extend only to a city/town in your chosen county. After stage one, Candidates may be required to provide further information regarding their location choice. Candidates who wish to be considered for positions which may arise (in accordance with their availability preference outlined on the application form), must be available for the full duration of the contract offered. Holidays/Events are not taken into consideration. Candidates who indicate that they are available from ‘April to September’ or ‘All Year’ should be available for the entirety of that period. 5. The number to be called forward to Stage 2 – Interview, will be determined from time to time by PAS. Candidates will be invited to interview in ‘batches’, for example Batch 1 may be from OOM 1 – 100, Batch 2 may be from OOM 101 – 200 etc. Please note that the number of candidates in each batch may differ. Candidates must be prepared to make themselves available at short notice, to undertake and attend test(s) and interview and provide any supporting documentation required. Candidates who have successfully completed a TCO contract/s within the 3 years prior to 26th October 2021 may not be required to undergo a Stage 2 - Interview. These references may be verified with the relevant Department. Other additional references may also be required for other recent employment. Please note that details of all prior TCO contracts, including those within the last 3 years, must be provided on the Application Form. Candidates with Disabilities Candidates who have indicated on their application form or profile that they would like to avail of reasonable accommodations throughout the selection process are asked to submit a psychologists/medical report. The purpose of the report is to provide PAS with information to act as a basis for determining reasonable accommodations where appropriate. These reports must be forwarded to our Assessment Services Unit by emailing ASU@publicjobs.ie by 26th October 2021. If you have recently applied for a competition with PAS and submitted a report, please email ASU@publicjobs.ie to confirm that your report is on file. Reasonable Accommodations in the Workplace If a candidate would like to request reasonable accommodations to be put in place by the potential employer, there will be an opportunity to confirm their interest at a later stage. Candidates will also have to complete a ‘Reasonable Accommodations Request Form’ at the pre-employment checks stage. There are many advantages to disclosing a need for reasonable accommodations in the workplace as it allows employers to aid an employee to perform to their full potential within the role. If you do require reasonable accommodations to be put in place and choose not to disclose it, your employer may not be in a position to provide the appropriate accommodations which may assist you in carrying out your role to your full potential.
