St. Michael’s House is a community based voluntary organisation founded in 1955 which provides facilities and services to over 1,700 people with intellectual disabilities and their families in the greater Dublin area. We provide services in three regions: North Region (Ballymun); North-East Region (Coolock & Baldoyle); Southern Region (Goatstown) and cover all age groups from early services to the end of life stage. Senior Occupational Therapist- Adult Services (Full-time - Permanent) St. Michael’s House seeks to employ proactive and progressive individuals who identify with the ethos of providing a continuum of innovative services that support people with a disability to integrate with their community. We are currently seeking applications from Occupational Therapists interested in joining the established Occupational Therapy team. Post Title: Research Fellow in Evidence Synthesis and Primary Care Research Post Status: Specific Purpose Contract – Full-time Research Group / Department / School: Department of Public Health and Primary Care, School of Medicine, Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin CLOSING DATE: 30/05/2022, 12 noon Post Summary This post will support completion of a collaboration between the Discipline of Public Health and Primary Care in Trinity College Dublin and the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA). Discipline of Public Health and Primary Care Public Health and Primary Care is located in the Institute of Population Health, Russell Centre, Tallaght Cross. https://www.tcd.ie/medicine/public_health_primary_care/ The disciplines of Public Health and Primary Care together form one of the Trinity College Medical School departments based in the Trinity Institute of Population Health (IPH), Tallaght, alongside colleagues from the School of Nursing and Midwifery. The Discipline has substantial and developing linkages and synergies with local GP practices, HSE and hospital colleagues and other disciplines within Trinity College. The Discipline is a multi-disciplinary team with public health medicine and general practice forming the core of the discipline. Epidemiology, health psychology, health economics and the social sciences are also represented in the team makeup. The Discipline’s research is reflective of health questions at both population and community levels, with particular emphasis on lifestyle issues and how these affect people's health. Health inequalities, illicit drugs and alcohol use, childhood and adult obesity, cancer prevention, prevention and management of chronic disease and multi- morbidity along with genetic epidemiology and gene-environment interaction, all form part of our research agenda. Staff members are involved in the Growing up in Ireland (GUI) study and The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA), large cohort studies which provide a rich seam of data for research. The Discipline runs a very successful Masters in Addiction Recovery within the IPH, Tallaght, and other masters courses within the Trinity Centre for Global Health and the Centre for Health Policy and Management. Both of these Centres are under the administrative governance of the Discipline. The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) is an independent State body with the legal power and responsibility for improving the quality, safety and value of health and social care services (excluding mental health) in Ireland. HIQA expanded this function in 2017 to include producing the evidence to support the development of National Clinical Guidelines for quality appraisal by the National Clinical Effectiveness Committee (NCEC) and mandated by the Minister for Health. The goal of the National Clinical Guidelines is to promote healthcare that is current, effective and consistent, ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients for the resources available. To achieve this, the guidelines must be based on the best available scientific evidence of clinical benefits and cost effectiveness and incorporate the budget impact of their implementation. Following a competitive process by the Health Research Board, HIQA’s health technology assessment (HTA) directorate was awarded a five-year contract to host the HRB-Collaboration in Ireland for Clinical Effectiveness Reviews (HRB-CICER). HRB-CICER synthesises evidence of clinical effectiveness, safety, cost-effectiveness and budget impact to inform the development of National Clinical Guidelines. The HRB-CICER team at HIQA works with multi-stakeholder groups to provide the evidence to support the development of National Clinical Guidelines and National Clinical Audit for quality appraisal by the National Clinical Effectiveness Committee (NCEC) and mandate by the Minister for Health. The HRB-CICER team is based in HIQA’s Health Technology Assessment Directorate. The team work closely with the lead collaborator, Trinity College Dublin and opportunities to get involved in ongoing primary care research will be available as appropriate. The first year of the post will predominantly involve support for the HRB CICER Programme, which is due to complete by May 2023 and the second year will involve more general primary care research with Prof Susan Smith. Overall Purpose: The post of Research Fellow in Evidence Synthesis and Primary Care Research is based within the Department of Public health and Primary Care at the institute of Population in TCD, based in Tallaght in Dublin. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team with responsibility for the effective implementation of evidence synthesis programmes to deliver high quality evidence to support the development of National Clinical Guidelines and National Clinical Audit in Ireland. They will also engage in high quality primary care research that aligns with the hoist departments research activities. Standard Duties and Responsibilities of the Post The successful candidate for the post will: • Work with colleagues in the HRB-CICER team to conduct systematic review and metaanalysis of clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness evidence and estimate budget impact of health interventions and programmes to inform the development of National Clinical Guidelines and National Clinical Audit. • Work with colleagues in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care to support ongoing research across the department and apply for further grant funding. Particular areas of research interest include multimorbidity, medicines management and clinical trials in primary care settings. Specifically, the duties of the post are to: • Contribute to the production of evidence reviews by multidisciplinary teams within defined timelines; • Conduct systematic literature reviews and analysis of clinical and economic data to inform summary report writing; • Analyse epidemiological data, clinical effectiveness data and other parameter data as required to populate economic models; • Contribute to the development of economic models to estimate budget impact of health interventions; • Work across some or all of the key evidence domains to include: epidemiology, clinical effectiveness, cost effectiveness, budget and resource impact, organisational issues; • Contribute to drafting and writing reports that present complex information in an easily understood and accessible format; • Work with the Guideline Development Groups to ensure that HRB-CICER outputs are used to inform evidence-based recommendations; • Assist in the development of processes, policies and quality standards to ensure evidence synthesis work is completed in accordance with described standards and is of a high quality; • Contribute to peer reviewed academic publication of synthesised evidence; • Proactively engaging in performance development reviews and actively seeking out learning and development opportunities; • Provide support to the Programme Manager and other directorate staff; • Undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be determined by the Director of Health Technology Assessment. • Contribute to the conduct of primary care-based research • Support the preparation and writing of grant applications
