Porter
Purpose of the Post The provision of high-quality porter service to all patients and service users in line with hospital service needs, national standards, national and local policies, procedures and guidelines and cleaning standards. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Service - Assist service users throughout the hospital as needed. - Attend all mandatory training applicable to this post. - Maintain a patient-focused service at all times. - Actively participate in all quality service programmes aimed at delivering a better quality of service to patients, staff, and parents. - Liaise with staff in other departments and with members of the public in a friendly and efficient manner. - Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in the exercise of duties on a day-to-day basis. - Ensure best practice is maintained in the delivery of services. - Work on bank holidays and unrostered overtime when required. - Be responsible for receiving and transferring deceased persons from the wards to the mortuary, and for coordinating the collection of remains by Funeral Directors. - Assist in the movement, transfer, and installation of furniture and equipment throughout the hospital. - Assist in the preparation of rooms for meetings, interviews, lectures, and conferences as required. - Assist in the collection and removal of waste and refuse. - Assist other members of the Maintenance Department when additional personnel are required. - Carry out heavy duties as directed by the Porter Head, Head of Facilities, or another Senior Manager. - Drive the hospital minibus and other hospital vehicles if required. - Collect and deliver mail throughout the hospital each morning and afternoon. - Provide support to the Finance Department by carrying out bank runs. - Provide a high quality and efficient delivery and removal of linen from wards in line with agreed procedures and best practice. - Remove household and clinical waste from wards and other areas where required in accordance with Hospital Policy, Health and Safety regulations, and as per collection schedules. Organisation - Flexibility required with regard to working hours to meet the demands of the service as the porter role. - Adhere to HIQA and Marymount regulations. - Collaborate with/support other colleagues as required. - Carry assigned bleep/phone and be contactable at all times. - Be a champion for safety, health, welfare regulations/best practices within the organisation. - Participate in new development projects or project-related meetings as required. Physical Demands - The post holder will be required to manoeuvre hospital trolleys and wheelchairs. - The post holder will be required to load and unload general supplies, i.e furniture and general equipment,. General - Adhere to Hospital Policies, Procedures, and Health & Safety regulations. - Participate in meetings, committees, team discussions as required. - Uphold patient care as a top priority by approaching tasks with flexibility/enthusiasm to support this principle. - Keep workspace tidy/organized while promoting good housekeeping practices. - Participate in out-of-hours on-call support as needed. - Take on fire safety responsibilities (e.g., Deputy Fire Officer). - Complete any other duties/tasks that may arise. - Upholds the Mission & Values of Marymount in all interactions. The post is pensionable. A panel may be created from which permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part time duration may be filled. The tenure of these posts will be indicated at “expression of interest” stage. Appointment as an employee of the Health Service Executive is governed by the Health Act 2004 and the Public Service Management (Recruitment and Appointments) Act 2004 and Public Service Management (Recruitment and Appointments) Amendment Act 2013. Remuneration The salary scale for the post shall be Porter, 4197 New appointees to any grade start at the minimum point of the scale. Incremental credit will be applied for recognised relevant service in Ireland and abroad (Department of Health Circular 2/2011). Incremental credit is normally granted on appointment, in respect of previous experience in the Civil Service, Local Authorities, Health Service and other Public Service Bodies and Statutory Agencies. Working Week The standard working week applying to the post is 39 hours per week. The appointee may be required to attend at such other times as are required for the proper discharge of duties including attendance outside normal working hours. Annual Leave The annual leave associated with the post will be confirmed at Contracting stage. Superannuation This is a pensionable position Marymount University Hospital & Hospice. The successful candidate will upon appointment become a member of the appropriate pension scheme. Pension scheme membership will be notified within the contract of employment. Retirement Start date before 1 April 2004 Minimum retirement age is 60. Maximum retirement age is 70. Start date on or after 1 January 2013 Minimum retirement age is the same as the state contributory pension (currently 66). Maximum retirement age is 70. * Public Servants not affected by this legislation: Public servants joining the public service or re-joining the public service with a 26 week break in service, between 1 April 2004 and 31 December 2012 (new entrants) have no compulsory retirement age. Public servants, joining the public service or re-joining the public service after a 26 week break, after 1 January 2013 are members of the Single Pension Scheme and have a compulsory retirement age of 70. Probation Every appointment of a person who is not already a permanent officer of the Health Service Executive or of a Local Authority shall be subject to a probationary period of 12 months as stipulated in the Department of Health Circular No.10/71. Termination of Office Outside of the probationary period the employment may be terminated at any time by one months’ notice on either side. The Management’s right under this paragraph shall not be exercised save in circumstances where the Management is of the opinion that the holder of the office has failed to perform satisfactorily the duties of the post or has misconducted himself/herself in relation to the post or is otherwise unfit to hold the appointment. Garda Vetting Garda Vetting is sought for all Hospital employees, who may have significant interaction with children and/or vulnerable adults in the course of their duties, either while in the Hospital or in the community. This is done for the protection of these vulnerable groups. Garda Vetting will be sought for the successful candidate(s). Candidates must comply fully with this process. Failure to comply with this process or to provide false or misleading information will result in exclusion from the recruitment process. Hospital Policies & Procedures (PPPGs) Details of the Hospital’s policies and procedures, including the Grievance and Disciplinary Procedure will be issued to the post holder (in electronic form) upon commencement of employment. All hospital policies and procedures are available on the SharePoint or Workvivo and employees are obliged to read and familiarise themselves and always adhere to same.
