Details of Service Bantry General Hospital is a model 2 hospital as part of CUH hospital group and is within the South / Southwest Hospital Group. Bantry General Hospital (BGH) is a model 2 rural and remote hospital serving the population of West Cork and South Kerry. BGH is the only model 2 hospital nationally receiving 999 ambulance calls and accepting undifferentiated medical patients. This is due to the large rural catchment area of the hospital and long distances to the nearest model 3 or model 4 hospital. Six Health Regions have been established within the HSE, on the basis of the geographical boundaries agreed by the Government in July 2019 and they will be operational from 2024. Each Health Region will be tasked with population specific planning resourcing and delivery of health and social care services for the needs of its unique population. This will result in improved accountability and governance in terms of finance and performance, while also bringing decision-making closer to the frontline. Health Regions will enable and empower staff to provide services that are: • Integrated, locally planned and delivered • Easier to access and navigate • Available closer to home Health Regions are geographically-based units with clearly defined populations. They align community and hospital services within specific areas. The HSE will retain a strong but leaner central organisation, with more service provision developed at a local level. The LIU Bantry General Hospital is one of 3 Injury Units within the Emergency Care Network (ECN) of Cork University Hospitals Group. The LIU is open 8am-7pm 7 days a week, providing service for Adult Patients and children from 5 years of age within the National agreed guidelines for Local injury Unit. The ANP (Local Injury Unit) scope of clinical practice involves the management of non-life and non-limb threatening conditions, commonly known as minor injuries or ambulatory care (HSE 2012; 2013b). Emergency and Acute Care (EAC) Directorate The Acute Floor currently comprises of the Emergency Department, Acute Medical Assessment Unit and the Acute Medical Decision Unit. The EAC Directorate is managed operationally and professionally by the Assistant Directors of Nursing in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Manager 3 and the Emergency Department Consultants. The management of the Directorate is overseen by the Clinical Operations Group (COG). There is a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary team work within the department and throughout the Acute Floor with a strong focus on safe and compassionate care. The post holder will work with the Nursing team to ensure that staff have the required and appropriate clinical care skills and competencies to effect timely patient care and intervention, and will provide professional and clinical leadership and vision and facilitate staff team building to provide planned care and develop educational strategies and service goals. Clinical Skills Facilitator The role of the Clinical Skills Facilitator is to deliver education, training, support and mentorship to nurses and the multidisciplinary team within one of the largest Emergency Departments in the country. EMEWS The Emergency Medicine Early Warning System (EMEWS) has been developed in response to concerns that Emergency Department (ED) patients are at risk of clinical deterioration between the time they are triaged and the time they are assessed by a Treating Clinician. The EMEWS guideline has been designed to interface seamlessly with the Manchester Triage System which is the nationally recommended ED triage approach for adult patients.
