Details of Service The Home Support Service is an integral part of the delivery of integrated care across our structure and provides support services to people living in the community or returning to live in the community. The Home Support Service is funded by Government to deliver a volume of service each year as approved in the HSE National Service Plan. It is currently a non-statutory service with access based on assessment of the person’s needs by the HSE. The HSE must have regard to the available resources and the competing demands for the services. Home Support is a key service within the Irish healthcare system providing home support to over 56,000 service users each year. The services are delivered by the HSE and a number of approved providers who deliver Home Support packages to clients locally in the community. The objective of the Home Support Service is to enhance the quality of life and wellbeing for those accessing the service by providing access to care and support that is planned around individual needs and choices, supporting people to live well in their own homes and communities independently for as long as possible. The Home Support Service supports the important role of the family and informal care in order to maintain the person at home. HCSAs are a key member of the multi-disciplinary team responsible for the provision of a quality service to support people in the community. In line with Department of Health Policy and direction, the HSE continues to work with the Department to roll out a reformed model of service delivery to inform the development of a Statutory Home Support Scheme for the financing and regulation of Home Support Services which will change the future model of service delivery in Ireland and how we provide home support. The successful implementation of the multi-annual programme of work will see the establishment of the Statutory Home Support Scheme in 2024.
