Academic Catering Assistant
Duties and Responsibilities • Maintain a safe, clean and professional learning environment that supports teaching, learning and assessment activities. • Support the effective operation of kitchens, restaurants, stores and practical learning areas by ensuring facilities, equipment and resources are prepared and maintained to the required standard. • Ensure equipment, utensils, crockery, glassware and other catering resources are cleaned, maintained, stored and readily available for operational use. • Support lecturers and students during practical classes, assessments, demonstrations, competitions and commercial activities. • Assist with the preparation, distribution, storage and control of food products, equipment, consumables and other resources. • Maintain accurate records relating to food safety, stock control, equipment checks and operational requirements. • Support the administration of linen, laundry and uniform systems. • Contribute to food service operations, including the preparation, presentation and sale of products in accordance with College procedures. • Operate cash handling systems and associated documentation in line with College procedures. • Assist with stock control, inventory management and the secure storage of resources and facilities. • Ensure waste is managed and disposed of in accordance with College procedures and environmental requirements. • Report maintenance issues, equipment defects, breakages and operational concerns promptly. Personnel Specification Essential Criteria Qualifications Hold or give a commitment to achieve the Level 2 qualification in Food Safety within the 4 weeks of employment (*Please see additional information for further guidance). Knowledge/Experience Demonstrate a working knowledge of the hospitality and catering industry. Demonstrate an understanding of food safety and hygiene in the food industry. Demonstrate knowledge of relevant Health and Safety procedures and legislation. Experience of: o Cash handling. o Working to clear and defined standards and prioritising. o Providing professional customer service.
