Orthoptist, Senior
There is currently one permanent full-time Senior Orthoptist, vacancy available in the HSE South West. The main base for the Community Paediatric Ophthalmology service in Cork will be in Ballincollig Primary Care Centre with outreach clinics in West Cork and North Cork. A panel may be created from this campaign for the Senior Orthoptist, from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full time or part time duration may be filled. The successful candidate will be required to deliver, manage and develop the Orthoptic service throughout Cork city and county. The service will be co-located with a number of primary care services and other services all of which serve a large population base. The Senior Orthoptist will have a pivotal role in the development of the service in the context of the National Primary Care Eye Services Review Group Report and will be required to participate in this programme and in any changes it may bring to the existing service including moving to an integrated acute/community model of care. In this regard the successful candidate for this role will also be required to form linkages with their colleagues in the acute sector to enhance both client care and staff skill set. The statutory responsibility of the three Public Analyst’s Laboratories (PALs), located in Cork, Dublin and Galway, is the protection of public health by providing an accredited independent scientific analytical and advisory service to a wide range of customers. The Legislative Statutory framework for the PALs is enshrined in all relevant food safety and food control legislation and cosmetics safety legislation, both EU and Nationally, as implemented by Statutory Instruments (S.I.). The latter include S.I. 117 of 2010 EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations and S.I. No. 440 of 2013 European Union (Cosmetic Products) Regulations 2013.
