First Year Apprentice Vacancy An Overview of the Level 8 Quantity Surveyor Apprenticeship An apprenticeship is a full-time programme that combines work-based learning with a formal training programme. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will work as a full- time member of staff with your employer, who will release you to attend the structured training programme with the training provider the earn as you learn approach. The learning component will be delivered through Atlantic Technological University, Co. Sligo Initially who function as the co-ordinating provider along with SCSI for Quantity Surveyor Apprenticeships in Ireland. The academic modules will be delivered online one day per week, with remaining four days on the job. Those who successfully achieve all programme elements will attain a bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying at Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ). Attendance at all scheduled training and achieving the various certifications involved, is a mandatory requirement for you to successfully complete the programme. The start date for apprentices recruited to join the programme will be early September 2026. Please note that requests for deferrals cannot be accommodated. Periodic face-to-face observation of the experience and achievements of the apprentice will be required, and outcomes recorded and discussed with the Supervisor/Assessor who will record the data within the apprentice training/learning plan.

The Maintenance Stores Operative is responsible for maintaining effective stock control within the Maintenance Stores, ensuring inventory levels are accurately managed, materials are readily available, and requests are fulfilled through the efficient picking, issuing, and dispatch of stock. The role is responsible for ensuring the Maintenance Stores remain appropriately stocked to support operational and maintenance requirements across the business. Inventory may include a wide range of materials and equipment, from automotive components and passenger-critical assets such as lift and escalator parts, to car park equipment and other maintenance-related supplies. Using the Maximo and Oracle planning systems, the Stores function plays a critical role in ensuring materials are accurately controlled, efficiently stored, and made available to support planned and reactive maintenance activities across all business units. In addition to Stores and inventory management responsibilities, the role provides operational support to the Asset Care team as required. These duties will vary in line with business needs and operational priorities and may include assisting with maintenance activities, operational projects, training, and other support functions. The successful candidate must hold and maintain a full, clean Category B driving licence and demonstrate a willingness to achieve Category C licence qualification through Cork Airport’s training programme. Responsibilities • Maintain inventory levels and ensure all stock items (repeatable line items) are managed within agreed minimum and maximum stock parameters. • Uphold high standards of housekeeping, safety, security, and organisation within the store’s environment, ensuring all inventory areas are clean, efficient, fit for purpose, and support operational requirements for Electricians and Engineers. • Operate and maintain effective systems for the timely issue and distribution of stock to departments and contractors in accordance with approved orders. • Manage procurement-related documentation accurately and efficiently, ensuring a robust replenishment process that complies with Finance and Audit requirements. • Conduct regular cyclical stock counts, in conjunction with the Finance Manager, to verify stock accuracy and ensure all inventory remains fit for purpose and of the required quality standard. • Maintain accurate inventory records within Oracle, ensuring all goods received are promptly recorded and that all replenishment and stock orders are processed through Oracle/MAS 9 in accordance with company policies and procedures. • Liaise with the CMMS Manager to ensure stock availability supports planned maintenance activities across all mechanical and electrical business units. • Participate in general operative duties as required, including fulfilling a role within the Snow & Ice Team, to support callouts and implementation of the Snow & Ice Plan. • Hold and maintain a full clean Category C driving license. Training and upskilling opportunities will be provided where required. • Support the Asset Care team as needed, including undertaking ramp driving and escorting duties. This is a multifunctional role encompassing Stores Management, Procurement, Asset Care support, Snow & Ice Planning, operational training, and other duties as required to support the ongoing needs of the business. PARTICULARS OF SERVICE The Council is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates with relevant experience for the position of Part-Time Retained Firefighter . It is proposed to form a panel of qualified candidates from which vacancies will be filled during the lifetime of the panel. QualificationsCharacter Each applicant must be of good character. Education Each candidate must have obtained a good standard of general education. Age Each applicant must submit, with their application form, a letter from their employer stating that they have no objection to releasing the applicant as necessary to respond to fire calls. The employment is part-time. The initial appointment will be for a probationary period of one year . The normal retirement age for retained firefighters is 55 years . However, in accordance with Circular 04/2024 , this may be extended up to 62 years , subject to approval and successful occupational health assessments. If progressing with appointment, successful candidates will be required to: Complete Garda Vetting. Complete a pre-employment medical assessment. Attend and successfully complete a Suitability Test. Attend and successfully complete a three-week Recruit Training Course . Attend a two-week Breathing Apparatus Wearers Course . Attend a one-week Compartment Fire Behaviour Course (usually within the first year of employment). Duties Be available and capable at all times when required to attend fires or other types of incidents. Operate any duty rostering or availability scheme required by the Local Authority where rostering is in place. Respond to fire calls, with a general response time of 5 minutes after the call is received. Carry a Fire Brigade Pocket Alerter at all times and ensure it is kept in proper working order. Reside and work sufficiently close to the Fire Station to enable a prompt response to all calls. If availability is affected by a change of work or any other reason, the firefighter will be required to resign. Be responsible for all items of personal equipment issued in connection with employment. Carry out all instructions issued in connection with employment. Attend weekly training sessions at the local fire station and any other training or courses required by the Fire Authority during employment with the Fire Service. Assist with or carry out the cleaning, testing, or repair of equipment when required. Carry out any further duties assigned by the Local Authority from time to time. Inform their employer that they are applying for the post. Undergo regular medical examinations as required by the Fire Authority. These examinations will be carried out by a doctor nominated by the Fire Authority, which will be responsible for payment of the doctor's fee. Absence from training sessions or fire calls without good reason will result in loss of payment or retaining fee, and continued absence over a six-month period may result in dismissal from the Brigade.
