Temporary Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist University
This is an appointment to the HSE West & North West Region on a Public Only Consultants’ Contract 2023 by the Health Service Executive. This post will support service provision within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Departments at Galway University Hospital 18.5 hours and Portiuncula University Hospital 18.5 hours. Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners Maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the relevant specialty. The post-holder will function as part of a multi-disciplinary team of Consultants, Midwives and HSCPs. The post-holder will participate in the obstetric on-call rota shared between GUH &PUH according to their work schedule which will be devised with their Clinical Director. The post-holder will deliver 37 hours split between the 2 sites (alternate weeks) and will participate in the on-call rota at 0.5 level at each site. The services they will provide will be OPD, Inpatient, Day Ward, Ambulatory Gynaecology Services, theatre sessions and they will contribute to the TOP service in GUH and PUH. It is expected that the post holder will participate in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology, including clinics, theatre, inpatients, day case, Ambulatory Gynaecology, Labour Ward and Termination of Pregnancy services. There will also be options to be involved in Colposcopy Services and other areas of special interest The Maternity, Gynaecology and Neonatology Units at PUH and GUH have a close working arrangement. There is a referral pathway for high-risk women, including multiple pregnancy to GUH for delivery on the GUH site. In PUH there are 5 obstetricians/gynaecologists –1 with special interest in fetal maternal medicine and 1 with special interest uro-gynaecology and three are general obstetricians and gynaecologists. The Unit at GUH has consultants with sub-specialty training in fetal maternal medicine, fertility treatment, uro-gynaecology and gynae oncology. This joint appointment strengthens the close working between both sites and provides more sustained and safer maternity services into the future..

Contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8am-8pm over seven days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement (Implementation of Clause 30.4 of Towards 2016). Probation All employees will be subject to a probationary period as per the probation policy. This policy applies to all employees irrespective of the type of contract under which they have been employed. A period of 6 months’ probation will be served: • On commencement of employment. • Fixed term to permanent contract. • Permanent employees commencing in promotional posts will also undertake a probationary period relating to their new post. Details of Service Dublin South, Kildare and West Wicklow consists of 14 primary care networks. Each Network has Primary Care Teams who provide multidisciplinary services to distinct populations. These teams are based in Primary Care Centres located within the populations they serve Occupational therapists provide services to clients of all ages who live within the catchment area. Occupational therapists are key members of the primary care team and have opportunities to participate in integrated care in collaboration with our acute partners, voluntary agencies and community services across the CHO. Primary Care Occupational Therapy Adult The model of service is mainly home based with interventions provided including falls prevention, cognitive rehabilitation, community skills training and self-care reablement. Occupational therapists also provide clinic-based services such as lifestyle redesign groups, health promotion groups, assistive technology training, complex seating assessments and upper limb rehabilitation. The primary focus is on helping the client to achieve their maximum potential in the areas of functional participation, health promotion and occupational wellness. Primary Care Occupational Therapy Paediatrics Occupational therapy is provided to children aged 0 – 18 years on a referral basis. The primary focus is to support children meet their maximum potential, through appropriate assessment and goal directed interventions. The model of service is clinic based and/or school based. Both individual and group interventions are provided as appropriate to best meet the child’s needs. Paediatric occupational therapy interventions are evidence based and could include fine and gross motor skills training, handwriting and sensory integration programmes. The occupational therapist would be expected to liaise with the Children’s Disability Network Teams (CDNT) and Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to ensure the needs of the children who live in the area are best met. The occupational therapist provides child centred interventions with all treatment planning based on the individual needs and goals of the child and their family. Integrated Care for Older Persons Senior Occupational Therapist (linked with Tallaght University Hospital, St James University Hospital, Naas General Hospital): The senior occupational therapist on the integrated older person’s service will work alongside a specialist multidisciplinary service primarily targeting and managing the complex care needs of the older person with multiple co-morbidities across a continuum of care. The overall aims of the service are to develop a person-centred care planning approach that supports robust and timely communication across care settings. You will work to reduce Emergency Department (ED) attendance through the development of care pathways that support GPs and others in assessment of older people with escalating care needs. You will provide support and education to the older person, carers and healthcare professionals.
