St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON) operates from three Dublin locations – St Luke’s Hospital Rathgar and St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Centres on the campuses of St James and Beaumont Hospitals. The Network provides a full range of world class treatments including a comprehensive VMAT programme, Intra-cranial Stereotactic (SRS), Extra-cranial Stereotactic (SBRT), Total Body Irradiation (TBI) and the national paediatric radiation oncology service. There is also a comprehensive brachytherapy service provided including both prostate seeds and ocular brachytherapy. Currently there are 14 linear accelerators within the Network, 4 in each of the centres at BC & SJC, and 6 on the Rathgar site. There are 2 CT scanners per centre. Both St James and Beaumont centres have an MRI unit. St Luke’s hospital houses the brachytherapy and superficial units. St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON) has a long history of involvement in clinical trials and works very closely with Clinical Trials Ireland St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON) serves patients primarily from the Dublin East, Dublin Midlands and Dublin North East regions. Consultant Haematologist With A Special Interest In Paediatric Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
Scope of the Role: The National Children’s Cancer Service (NCCS) at Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) , Crumlin provides diagnosis and treatment to all children and adolescents (0–15 yrs, 364 days) with cancer in Ireland. This comprises those with solid tumors (Oncology) and those with Haematological malignancies (Leukaemia and lymphoma). The NCCS also incorporates the National Centre for Paediatric Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) and is aligned with the National Cancer Control Programme. The activity of the NCCS has significantly increased in both size and complexity over the past number of years. Comprehensive care for children and adolescents with cancer is delivered by robust clinically governed programmes and patient pathways. Treatment for Paediatric Leukaemia and lymphoma (collectively referred to as Haematological Malignancies) is planned according to internationally recognised best practice, and is delivered according to international treatment protocols. The majority of patients with Haematological Malignancies are enrolled on Clinical Trials and treatment is delivered by robust clinically governed programmes. This requires on-going collaborative discussions at MDT level with other CCLG centres. Consultant Paediatrician Special Interested Peri-operative Care
Purpose of role: The Part time Consultant Paediatrician role at NOHC is to provide acute care for children with general and complex presentations needing surgical intervention. They will also assist in the development of a peri-operative service in NOHC. In the interim they will partake on the general paediatric on call rota in NOHC. They will also partake in acute and out-patient General Paediatrics work in CHI. The post holder(s) will liaise between NOHC and CHI to ensure appropriate governance, patient selection, staff training, review and development of protocols, quality assurance and an on-call commitment to paediatric inpatients. Expected sessions on site in Cappagh would include attendance at the 3 weekly pre and post operative conference, attendance at quarterly QI conference and attendance at appropriate committee meetings. The post holders would be expected to do 1 to 2 ward rounds per week. The on-call commitment will cover a ward of 13 beds in total, with a normal maximum of about 5-6 inpatients overnight currently. These are all preselected, low medical complexity orthopaedic cases who have been pre-assessed. Most are single overnight stays for analgesia with 4-5 days at the upper range for limb deformity cases and scoliosis. The ward is staffed by experienced, fully trained paediatric nurses and NCHD cover is currently provided by an in-house orthopaedic registrar from CHI. Eligibility Criteria Mandatory Professional Qualifications and Experience: a) Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of General Paediatrics And b) Two years certified postgraduate training in paediatric medicine “The successful interviewee must be registered as a specialist in the relevant specialty on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland, within 180 days of the day of interview and before taking up appointment. In exceptional circumstances proleptic appointments may be considered for candidates engaged in relevant training programmes. The Consultant must, at all times while continuing to hold office, continue to be registered with the Medical Council of Ireland.
