MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and deliver guided talks and programmes at a variety of locations for a range of audiences, both inside and outside the Borough. Deliver talks, PowerPoint presentations, and demonstrations to groups. Maintain an up-to-date record system and efficient booking system for groups. Develop, promote, and deliver a varied programme of leisure and environmental events, activities, and projects throughout the Borough. Prepare materials and assist with setting up exhibitions and programmes at Lough Neagh Discovery Centre and other sites, including liaising with designers and suppliers. Plan and produce educational materials in line with the Northern Ireland Curriculum. Prepare interpretive materials such as promotional leaflets, trails, guides, panels, and similar resources covering topics including biodiversity, sustainability, and the environment. Respond to requests by providing verbal and written information on a wide range of biodiversity topics. Assist in promoting the work of the Biodiversity Service through the production of social media content, maintenance of online platforms, liaison with the media, and participation in radio interviews where required. Carry out practical conservation work, including habitat creation and restoration, using hand tools and other equipment. Conduct biological surveys, including Wetland Bird Surveys, Butterfly Census, vegetation monitoring, and related activities, both independently and as part of a team, and compile records and reports. Assist with the training and supervision of casual staff, placement students, and volunteers. Supervise biodiversity sites and visitors. Maintain equipment such as telescopes, digital cameras, digital projectors, and other Biodiversity Team resources, reporting any defects to the line manager. Carry out administrative duties including filing, taking bookings, processing payments, and preparing invoice request forms and reports. Represent the Council on relevant forums. Deputise for the Education Officer during their absence. Liaise with external partners and share good practice. Undertake visitor surveys. Assist in preparing future development plans.
